Anti-Muslim, anti-liberal Texan changes gun class policy under pressure

About two weeks after a Texas Hill Country store owner advertised a concealed handgun class that was not open to Muslims or Obama supporters, the Austin American-Statesmen reports that Crockett Keller has changed his position, amid negative national attention drawn to the policy as well as a state investigation.

The newspaper wrote:

In a statement released (Monday) evening, Tom Vinger, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, said an investigation of Crockett Keller has been closed after Keller “affirmed that he would not refuse instruction to anyone based on national origin, race or religion.”

“DPS will have no additional comment at this time,” Vinger said.

Keller, the owner of Keller’s Riverside Store in Mason, told the Houston Chronicle he initially got calls of support and solidarity over the radio spot, which said “If you are a socialist liberal and/or voted for the current campaigner-in-chief, please do not take this class. You have already proven that you cannot make a knowledgeable and prudent decision as under the laid. Also, if you are a non-Christian Arab or Muslim, I will not teach you the class.”

He was unashamed of his remarks, but Muslim groups across the country, including the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Texas, have spoken out against his discrimination policy.

I couldn't find this posted. Keller “affirmed that he would not refuse instruction to anyone based on national origin, race or religion.” That makes sense, I was pleased that he can bar Democrats or Obama voters from his classes. And there doesn't appear to be any bar to students acknowledging their loyalty to America, which is also common sense.

He should have left this out and just said a lunch of pork chops and bacon sandwiches would be served while listening to speeches from Ronald Reagan.

Either he should have quietly refrained from taking Muslims and others he didn’t want to instruct (sorry, there’s no more room in the class), or he should have been prepared to fight for his position. Which, I would add, would have been extremely time-consuming and expensive.
