The shuffling of the leaderboard in the Republican presidential primary race continues to affect the candidates popularity on Facebook.
According to our Election Tracker, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is doubling his daily number of new Facebook fans, following a pair of strong debate showings last week.
His gain may come at the collapse of former pizza company executive Herman Cain.
Cains Facebook fan base has dropped from a high of 7,000 fans to just 2,000 daily fans, as his candidacy is plagued by allegations of sexual harassment and a bumbling debate reply on Libya.
Heres the breakdown: Gingrich has had more than 8,700 new fans in the past week, for a grand total of more than 170,000 likes on his page. He has averaged about 1,500 new fans each day in the past week.
While Herman Cain still has a much larger Facebook fan base, numbering more than 375,000, his momentum on Facebook appears to be stalling given the drop in new fans he is accumulating each day.
The Republican hopefuls still cant lay a glove on President Barack Obamas solid Facebook showing. President Obamas campaign fan page has more than 24 million likes, and he has added nearly 100,000 fans in the past week, and almost 13,000 today alone.
What do these results tell us in terms of predicting the election that is one year away? Nothing official.
However, the GOP candidates with strong Facebook showings still appear to be polling well. An Iowa poll out today shows Cain, Romney, Gingrich and Paul all in a four-way tie for first. All four candidates still have a strong overall Facebook fan base.
facebook fans does not win elections. I’d bet Rou Paul has more.
Regardless. Newt has not met with the media blender yet like Cain has.
Message from Herman Cain’s Facebook page (20 hours ago)- “I would like to thank the nearly 50,000 people who have joined our campaign here on Facebook in the last 10 days.”
Are you kidding me? Newt Gingrich has been front and center in the crosshairs since the mid-90's. The left DESPISES the man. They may have thought he had no chance until this week, but there is a reason why he is the last candidate standing that they'd like to see in the Oval Office. His detractors on this website ought to give that some thought.
I am not. Allred is probably already talking to one of the ex’s or a mistress.. or brewing up something.
This is all a game the establishment and msm are playing. Build um up, knock um down.
In the end, the one we hear hardly a peep about, will be our chosen nominee..
Heard anything about mittens lately?
“Princess Nancy” is a fan of Newt.........Smartest man in the room? Nope.
I was right!
Newt 171,000
Cain 377,000
Paul 586,000
let’s just see what people are posting on Newt’s page:
“Newt: your idea to try and unite the two factions of the GOP, the Establishment Republicans and the lunatic faction, the Tea Party Militia, will eventually fail; the two sides hate each other and the lunatic faction is chasing away the moderate GOP you’d need to have a ghost of a chance against Obama; you’re going to have to pick a side; that’s how fractured the party is right now; btw: how’s the latest marriage going?”
Yeah, I see where’s Newt’s base is coming from. lol
The truth is Herman gives us the best chance to win. I like Newt, his knowledge of the political landscape, but he lacks appeal outside of our base. Anyone who knows politics will tell you appeal trumps substance 90% of the time. Herman Cain has both. Unless we want a repeat of 2008, we better take the horse blinders off. A tidal wave of demographics is coming, and unless we begin to take advantage of competent, conservative minorities, we will forever become a fringe element. We cannot continue to lose 75% of the minority vote - a segment of the population which is by far outgrowing traditional white America - our fall will be inevitable. Leaders like Herman Cain, Allen West and Marco Rubio represent true opportunity and change. Newt is extremely capable, but that’s not the issue. He will be stereotyped as the old, boring, elitist Republican. And it’s only a matter of time before the MSM airs his dirty laundry...flip flops, extra marital affairs, etc. This notion that Newt win will the presidency solely by debating Obama is fiction. Obama will only agree to several debates, of which, he will throw out a few empty but memorable barbs which the leftist media will repeatedly air to spin as a draw. The rest of the time he will have to find a way to appeal to America, independents, and disenfranchised Democrats. Charisma and energy are not his strong attributes; being part of the establishment is. This isn’t about personal choices, it’s about choosing the candidate who gives us the best chance to win in November. Will we learn?
That's funny. Just the other day she was accusing him of "waging class warfare." Are you referring to the famous "couch photo," which Gingrich recently called "the biggest mistake of my political career?" I have a photo of Sarah Palin eating pizza with Donald Trump. Think those two see eye to eye? My take of the photo is that it was a calculated attempt by Gingrich to appeal to moderates, among whom he is seen as the poster-boy for inflexible conservatives. If it doesn't hang him out to dry in the primary it will turn out to be a huge positive for him and therefore for us.
it’s one thing to have a slice of pizza with a guy that might not agree with you politically.
It’s quite another to cozy up on a couch and push globull warming.
We can’t afford someone who makes those kind of “mistakes”
If there were anything new on Gingrich, it might have gone national yet, but we would have at least heard it by now on a website like this. This is what we have:
The story about the first wife, which is a fabrication. He has been biding his time with this one, but when he blows it out of the water, a lot of people are going to be scratching their heads wondering what the fuss was about.
The ethics violations. Eighty four were filed against him when he was speaker. Eighty three were thrown out. Sound familiar, Palin fans? The one that stuck had to do with a class he taught. He was not found guilty, but the settlement required him to pay for the cost of the investigation. Two years later, the IRS cleared him, but the damage was done. He had already resigned as Speaker.
Other than his tendency to put his foot in his mouth, which he seems to have outgrown, that’s about it.
Cain/Gaga '12
President Newt Gingrich.... it’s going to happen.
Forget Lady Gaga..
Cain/Paul '12 ..Newt = Press Secretary
I like Cain, think he would make a decent Republican president, and would be thrilled to vote for him against Obama. I discount the idea that running our own minority is the only way to encourage minority votes. I also think Gingrich has shown an ability to take charge of a debate forum and force Obama to either address a difficult question that is not being asked by moderators or concede the point. Obama's best strategy for winning this election is to blur the distinction between him and his opponents and try to establish a second referendum on Bush. McCain could have won if he decided to go after Obama's lack of experience. Now it's costing us. Again, I like Cain, and I don't like being put into the position of seeming to attack fellow Republicans (libertarians excepted), but I question whether he has the political experience to drive the general election with the forcefulness necessary. The risk of that strategy backfiring on him is too him.
So... a man who admits that foreign policy is not his strong suit, and a man that hopes the Iranians will change their mind about us if we'd just be nicer to them? Good thinking.
I respect those who say that the United States should simply withdraw from the Middle East, but I don't respect them for anything but their honesty. -Christopher Hitchens (this is, I hope, the first and last time I will ever quote this person on FR)
There is a whole new generation of voters who do not know Newt’s story.
Most of them have seen him on the debates and are voting on that performance.
Once his liberal views are revealed I think there will be a change on his popularity.
The 3 wives baggage will have plenty of Christians running from Newt. May attract the Mormon vote, however.
Please share what you think you know about Newt's personal life, and how it will effect his campaign.
