Newt Gingrich is no conservative
Washington Examiner ^ | 111411 | Gene Healy

Posted on 11/14/2011 10:08:40 PM PST by Fred

Has it really come to this? Newt Gingrich as the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney? That's what many in the punditocracy have proclaimed as the former speaker of the House has surged recently in the polls.

Yet a look at his record reveals that Newt is hardly the "anti-Mitt" -- he's Mitt Romney with more baggage and bolder hand gestures.

Every Gingrich profile proclaims that he's a dazzling "ideas man," a "one-man think tank." It seems that, if you clamor long enough about "big ideas," people become convinced you actually have them.

But most of Gingrich's policy ideas over the last decade have been tepidly conventional and consistent with the Big Government, Beltway Consensus.

Gingrich's campaign nearly imploded this summer when he dismissed Rep. Paul Ryan's, R-Wis., Medicare reform plan as "right-wing social engineering." But that gaffe was a window into Gingrich's irresponsible approach toward entitlements.

In 2003, Gingrich stumped hard for President George W. Bush's prescription drug bill, which has added about $17 trillion to Medicare's unfunded liabilities. "Every conservative member of Congress should vote for this Medicare bill," Newt urged.

And in his 2008 book "Real Change," he endorsed an individual mandate for health insurance.

We haven’t looked at Rick Santorum closely enough.

We know that Newts record is bad. We haven’t looked at Santorum. They both got in the race early, and we said NO to both really early. Now is time to look at Rick again.

And Buddy Roemer

And Gary Johnson

The only argument that Newt has right now is “I’m the only one left”. Wrong.

how’s that?

Oh, you think I’m against adultery? I’m just saying that most voters think that. It’s not really my own personal opinion, but the opinion of voters. It’s what makes Newt unelectable. (well, the economy is crap).

And what lie exactly?

I watched that video of Cain talking about Libya? Have you? Not impressive. Some were trying to say it was as bad as Perry. It wasn’t at all.

Here’s how Cain differs from Obama on this - he “would have done a better job determining who the opposition is” . That’s the answer of someone who knows that shouldn’t be agreeing with the most Liberal President in US History on Foreign Policy, but can’t think of anything at all concrete that he would’ve done differently. What’s the Conservative Foreign Policy Herman? Doing a better job determining who the opposition is. Not much different there. So, the Liberal Foreign Policy and the Conservative Foreign Policy is exactly the same. Thanks Irving Kristol.

Newt is too polarizing and too much bagage.

The press and media will destroy him.

Remember it is Newt that said,

“I Cheated On My Wives Because I Love America Too Much”

Sorry... Done... Finished... Next!

I just don’t want to hear that Newt should be the choice because there’s no one left. Say that when there’s no one left.

Santorum
G. Johnson
Roemer

all need to be looked at again before Newt becomes the “last one”.

Has Santorum done a lot of unpopular adultery and divorce. I don’t honestly know. I think Roemer has been divorced. Don’t know anything about Gary Johnson.

And Fred, just so you know, your juvenile taunting reveals a whole lot about your persona. Which candidate are you supporting as you raise their negatives?

Ronald Reagan is not on the ballot. Newt is the least bad of the sad sack choices we have.

And, similar to McCain, he will lose to Obama.

"In 2003, Gingrich stumped hard for President George W. Bush's prescription drug bill, which has added about $17 trillion to Medicare's unfunded liabilities."
I would like to see the details. Notice the Gross National Debt per this web site, 14.993 Trillion or so estimated to this day in time.
It just seems like we need a little more accurate package of information to back up 17 trillion US dollars claimed in debt over how long from the Washington Examiner.

Here is but one of your lies:

"Cain agreed with Obama 100%."

You also lie when you try to deceive using red herring misdirection. But you must be the most righteous on on these threads, defending whom, again?

What?

Obama is the only Democrat candidate.

Newt is one of many Republican candidates.

If the idea is to beat Obama, you don’t pick someone that so many people hate.

Look, there’s going to be opposition research on every candidate. Even if you don’t believe and think nobody should ever say anything negative about your pick, the fact is the left is going to be absolutely vicious with whoever we nominate. Forewarned is forearmed. Every single candidate has been scrutinized as if they were having a public anal exam. Now it’s Newt’s turn. Deal with it.
