Newt Gingrich has put up a new blog post, responding to right-wing criticism for his endorsement of moderate Republican candidate Dede Scozzafava in the NY-23 special election, instead of Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman.

Except that most Republican voters supported the Conservative.
Reflexively supporting the County Chairmen -- in opposition to the voters -- ain't the smartest trick in the world.
Werks for Jug Ears!
Palin endorsed Hoffman, the CONSERVATIVE candidate in the race. Scozzafava got just enough support to got Hoffman the election. Therefore, Newt is culpable in that loss.
Knowing we know and CARING that we know is two different things. He is counting on today’s words to erase yesterday’s words and actions, and it seems to me he is counting on us having a very short memory...because it is what he WILL DO and not what he says that counts. And no one trusts what he will do.
He is prone to temper tantrums, cannot take criticism, lashes out, and his judgement is horrible. Not going there.
Move the goal post. It’s okay. Imagine the impact had he endorsed the CONSERVATIVE?

Newt Gingrich is a serious candidate for serious thinkers experiencing serious issues. Ok, so maybe Newt is a moderate Republican, don’t support him. However, his criticism of Obama is real, his love for this country is real, his experience is superior to any candidate, and he will run circles around Obama with his knowledge. He has supported a vast number of conservative candidates and bills in his vast number of years in the government. Be sure and scrutinize him for the handful of issues he didn’t follow along right wing party lines, you will end up with Mitt McCain losing against Barrack Obama.
When it suits him, Newt resembles Scozzafava, a little liberal this, and a little liberal that, depending on what the Washington establishment likes at the time. He’s a policy wonk who knows the joy of compromise.
It doesn’t matter who Newt supports, or what progressive agenda he likes at the time. He isn’t going to get the nomination, but he is right on time to be the Gingrich that stole Christmas again, this time as a spoiler for Romney.
No way Newt couldn’t have known who Dede Scozzafava was. The whole mess had gone public well before he stepped in and volunteered his services. It was in the headlines all over the place.
Im just sick of perpetual politicians who always think its their turn.
“Wow! Did this happen? I hadnt previously read it four hundred thousand times here in the past two weeks”
Just like the poster with Newt sitting next to Nancy we have seen for three hundred thousand times in the past three weeks.
Look, seriously, no one expects real Republicans in New York anymore. They’ve all moved away.
I corrected a previous poster's assertion. I observed that Newt's position was a mistake -- which it was. I did not attack Newt.
So, why do you choose to assign motivations to me that I do not have?
Supporting a republican... aliberl one does not make newt a good guy. To the contrary. Newt is an inside the beltway republican.
Go ahead and nominate him. The real conservatives across this country will tear up the Republican party and vote for a third party candidate consisting of real conservative values.
We are done taking orders from you rinos and liberal republicans. Its over.
Newt will lose the general in a land slide.
Every candidate has done or said something I disagree with a some point in their life.
Sarah Palin is not running so I am going with anybody but Obama or Roomey.
Cain's inexperience is scaring me alot now.
Sorry. I was responding to the same poster you were and in error posted to you.
“Newt will lose the general in a land slide.”
Hopefully, the Newt Naysayers took the time to watch his interview with Hannity this evening. What struck me was how much he has achieved for the American people, the distortion of the truth, and his humility. When asked, he spoke about what he was proudest of in his accomplishments, NOT ONCE did he say “I”, it was always “WE.”
It is going to be Newt or Romney. If you have seen the Cain/Lybia video from today, it is abundantly clear that Herman Cain is absolutely NOT ready, and has no chance in hell.
It is Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich. I suggest people make their minds up now between the two..... which I presume will be Newt.... and throw your support behind him. Tearing down Newt leaves you with Mitt Romney.
The Republican primary voters are the 99.999%. You Newt haters here are the .001% that actually know who De De Scozzafava is. No one else knows or cares.
Apology accepted. Carry on.
