The good news is that as the shit keeps happening, that is exactly what the Church will have to do to survive. We might even have to forego all tax exemptions. But who cares? Money is not what drives the good works - truth, beauty and goodness drive those good works.
We don’t need government support (and we don’t have government support) to do His work. Screw the government - being involved with them was nice while the government was American. Now that it is post-American why bother?
I think y’all may not understand that the Catholic Church invented the whole concept of orphanages, adoption services, and services to the poor — centuries ago. Governments in both Europe and America have been happy to sub these tasks out to church agencies because they had the expertise and infrastructure in place, and because they provided socially valuable services at a low cost.
HHS is now cutting off Catholic agencies, as punishment for not signing on the dotted line on same sex “marriage” and adoptions to same sex couples. This is a violation of the First Amendment, clearly intended to place a crippling financial burden on Catholic agencies, given that they have committed to substantial operating overhead obligations with the reasonable expectation of continuing to receive government grants to continue their work.
Our Federal government would rather see these agencies ruined, services denied to the public, and professionals thrown out of work, than suffer challenge from Catholics about their moves to create special privileges for unnatural relationships.
From another article: "Archbishop Dolan said, 'Jesus prefers prophets, not programs; saints, not solutions; conversion of hearts, not calls to action; prayer, not protests; 'Verbum Dei' rather than our verbiage.'"
Even Abp Timothy Dolan talks the talk, but whether he walk the walk is gong to depend on whether we, the laity, give him a series of good, hard shoves.
Which I think is required by our Baptismal promises.
V. Do you reject Satan?
R. I do.
V. And all his works?
R. I do.
V. And all his empty promises?
R. I do.
