Following Saturday’s GOP CBS/National Journal debate, the Michele Bachmann campaign accused CBS News of organizing a biased event by purposefully keeping her questions to a minimum. After accidently receiving an internal email from John Dickerson – the newly appointed political director for CBS News – her campaign released a screenshot of the correspondence to reporters. Via The Hill:
Dickerson was responding to an email sent to CBS News staffers discussing the possibility of booking Bachmann for a webcast interview. The initial email notes that Alice Stewart, Bachmann's spokeswoman, was included in the email chain, but Dickerson appeared not to have noticed when he sent his reply to the group.
"Okay let's keep it loose though since she's not going to get many questions and she's nearly off the charts in the hopes that we can get someone else," Dickerson wrote.
Bachmann has been struggling in the polls since her peak in August, and is currently hovering around 4 percent.
CBS News, however, defended the email explaining it was merely “a candid exchange about the reality of the circumstances.” According to Mediaite, a screenshot of the email was posted on Bachmann’s Facebook page by Keith Nahigian – her campaign manager – with the following caption:
While Michele has been onstage at tonight’s debate demonstrating strong leadership on foreign policy and national security, we received concrete evidence confirming what every conservative already knows – the liberal mainstream media elites are manipulating the Republican debates by purposely suppressing our conservative message and limiting Michele’s questions.View the attached email by CBS News’ political director from earlier today–we need to show the liberal media elite that we won’t stand for this outrageous manipulation. Help us fight this affront by sharing this with your friends.
A “candid exchange” of leftie bias.
Your nick name seems ironic in light of your comment.
LOVE IT!! GO CAIN!!!!
The republicans should debate each other 3 times a week.
It should be live streamed from the GOP website with pod casts of all the past debates available from said website.
They should just sit around a large table and discuss a single issue at a time. Social security, defense, Education, Medicare and so on and so forth.
No moderators and no timekeeping. No time limits, they could debate for one to eight hours, as long as they want.
Why they let a bunch of elitist liberals question them as they are doing now is insanity. Letting some liberal interrupt my conservative candidates is insulting and demeaning.
Are we not in the information age?
What is wrong with these people?
You got that right!
Same goes fo Newt's whining and Cain's whining. Finger pointing is for losers.
Google my name.
I actually accomplished something....and never complained.
If Bachmann keeps crying the blues as a victim, she will solidify her position in last place.
She doesn't deserve to be on that stage!
She sounds like Obama blaming everything on something else but herself.
Finger pointing has worked very well for the leftists. Lamely accepting this situation is what losers do.
And remaining silent or calling those who go head to head with the leftists losers is remarkably stupid and ensures that the leftists wil continue to dominate.
Only need to study the photos in the link above and below..it's not what CBS, for example, even said; tis what they reported or the way they reported the debate.
The photos were a clue to me on Cain. At least they Bachmann ahead of Cain..Herman is the one that got blurred in the photo, scowling as Huntsman makes a hand gesture [perhaps innocently but there was, I suspect, some insider laughter and put into the photo gallery]..plus Cain was placed at the bottom of the page.
So Bachmann got better treatment in the CBS analysis ..CBS also seemed to show a bored audience and majority white as well...and maybe it was, I was not there[in pics].
Is what they don't say that they can get a way with.
Bachmann has class, intelligent, committed, and a leader and would grow even further as Bush did in office. I like how she conducts herself, but the media does not take her seriously so gives her less press and time in debate[as Lynn Cheney brought up in an interview recently with Bob Schieffer[1969-]--Lynn saying the media determined who was covered and who was not, when he played all innocent and dumb. [The last more accurate.] All The CBS Photos, You decide:
I watched all of the after show webcast, and was really taken aback at the way the Romney rep was handled, and the others who spoke. Then, they abruptly (to me), cut it all off, and said there were no more. I immediately wondered about Bachmann’s rep, because I would have liked to hear what he/she might have said about her constantly being cut off during the debate. Nope. None. That’s what this email is about, because Dickerson was the reporter interviewing reps in the after show.
We conservatives are better than liberals and come out on top when we stay focused on the issues and NOT whine or cry about poor treatment or act like victims. Those are tactics employed by malcontents and reactionaries.
Reagan beat the liberal establishment time and again without lowering himself to their level or engaging in political mud slinging.
I really, really, really like Shelly a lot... but isn’t this a “Master of the Obvious” comment?
The debates are always poorly conducted, and this one was no exception. If anything, it was even more annoying than the annoying run of the mill.
The candidates need to take a hand in planning the debate format that will best allow them to get their message across to the public, because in the end, thats the point, isn’t it? to communicate ideas and wrestle with ideas. If the format shuts off every discussion just as it is getting interesting, if it shuts out half the candidates, if it forces the candidates to discuss issues from a point of view that is not their own, then its a waste of time. Its worse than a waste of time, it actually does damage to everyone standing up there.
So, since its always this way, why don’t they do something about it? Gingrich’s private debate with Cain was a good solution, it was the candidates taking control of the process. They should take control, and instead of inviting the media to “moderate” they should choose their own method of moderating it, and invite the media to broadcast it as is. If they don’t want to do it, then use other means. Radio, internet TV, hire their own cable outlet.
Don’t just stand there like patsies and take what your political enemies dish out.
Guilty.
The liberal attack dog posting as “moderator” was clearly hostile, particularly to Bachmann.
Why are the GOP candidates participating in debates “moderated” by hostile leftwing political activists?
Why?
Bachmann is right.
The GOP needs to hold its own debates, and refuse to enable the leftwing clowns pretending to be “journalists”.
Just hold your own debates, GOP.
Put them on the web. We’ll find them.
Boy you really just cannot make a rational factual statement can you. You really have NO clue what joke you are making of yourself around here with these idiotic baseless personal attacks. I suggest YOU stop whining and try making a rational case for your candidate of choice instead of just mindlessly screaming bile at all the other candidates.
If only they asked her more questions, she might have gone from 2% support to 3% support! She was robbed! /s Give me a break, stick a fork in her, she is so (over)done. Nolw she’s even running ads lying about Herman Cain’s abortion record. Pathetic.
It’s obvious that Democrats are commenting in this GOP debate threads. No one takes their silly comments seriously.
How can Herman Cain have abortion records, since he never held public office?
I respect Sarah Palin for not being part of this disgusting circus.
She's smarter than all the other Republicans put together!
