Let the police sort out what is admissable and what is not.

McQueary was the only person in a position to defend the child by calling the police when the alleged rape happened. By the time he told Paterno, the victim was long gone, and you need a victim to prosecute a sex crime.

The victim was long gone? Nonsense. The victim was almost certainly over in Sandusky's children's shelter wondering how he'd gotten dropped into the living hell he found himself in. If Paterno and McQueary had reported the incident to the police, the police could (and most likely would) have located the victim, gotten the poor kid out of Sandusky's reach and gotten him some help. Child abuse allegations with an eyewitness were taken as seriously in 2004 as they are now and Sandusky's pedophile carcass would have been in prison.

There's no way to minimize the damage done by Paterno and McQueary in this - they let Sandusky get away with it and abuse other children for years.

Others here have said Paterno could have kept Sandusky off campus. With what? He’d have had to give a reason

Here's a pretty good reason: Sandusky was no longer a member of Paterno's coaching staff in 2004, and hadn't been for 5 years. He had no business whatever in the Penn State locker room or shower. There was no earthly reason he should continue to have an office on campus near Paterno, either. But Paterno saw to it that Sandusky had access to all of these things, after his 28 year old grad assistant told him he'd personally seen Sandusky molesting a child.

And Paterno's defenders want to portray him as the victim in all this? Seriously?

If Paterno had gone outside channels to call Sandusky a kiddie diddler, or even imply he was one, and had been proven wrong, he and Penn State would have been hit with one huge libel suit. He doubtlessly assumed the University’s attorneys would make sure it was handled properly. Greg Schultz (in charge of campus security, but indicted for perjury) is the one who let it drop through the cracks, apparently without involving counsel.

Sandusky had a HISTORY of child abuse and it was witnessed.

NOW PSU has some serious lawsuits coming it's way for the actions Patreno DIDN'T take.
