Some public figures have labeled the “Mormon” church as a “cult”. Most recently, ABC News reported that Dallas Pastor Robert Jeffress applied such a label in an interview following a political gathering where Jeffress introduced a political rival to Mormon candidate Mitt Romney.
Use of such a term to describe Mormonism is highly offensive to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “Cult” carries the connotation of dangerous, even violent groups whose beliefs are irrational and whose practices are immoral and lawless (Koresh and the Branch Davidians, Heaven’s Gate, Aum Shinrikyo, and The People’s Temple are all prominent examples) . The term cannot be applied to Mormons unless it is so broadly defined that its use could be applied to virtually any religious body.
Like racist language, the use of the word “cult” to describe a religion usually tells us very little about the religion, but a great deal about the person using the word. In short, it tells us only that the person using the label “cult” doesn’t like the religion in question, or thinks it is illegitimate. Bryan Wilson, a Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, and a noted sociologist of minority religions noted:

Exactly how is it that YOU believe you know the Word of the Lord? Your leaders have maligned and slandered and denied that the Holy Bible is the Word of the Lord by claiming it is "translated incorrectly".
Mormons can dish it out but they sure can't take it.

It's called projection....if anyone refuses to bow at the altar of Joseph Smith, it's a personal insult to a mormon. They are taught from birth that they are "special" and have the one and only truth. Those who disagree are liars and bigots...you CAN see THAT on FR! !

Your concept of hell is apparently different from mine. The LDS Church believes in a second chance for sinners after they die - that they will have the opportunity to accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Of course if a dead person wants to reject the Gospel, they may. So “Mormonism condemns all non Mormons to hell” is an incorrect statement.
On the other hand, if I had a dollar for every time I have been condemned to hell on this very site, I’d be rich - even though I have confessed with my mouth and believe in my heart that Jesus Christ is my Savior and that God raised Him from the Dead. Jesus Christ died for me to save me from my sins.
The hat has it as: "Pokest them not, unless thou hast prepared thyself for battle."

Silly me. I thought Jesus Christ was the only way to Heaven - the way, the truth and the life - no man comes to the Father except by Him, my wonderful Savior and my Best Friend.

IF Jesus is my advocate? What in the world. There is only one Gospel of Jesus Christ - He suffered and died for me - He took my sins upon Himself to save me. When He was on the Cross, I was on His mind. This was Heavenly Father’s Plan of Salvation and the Holy Ghost ever lives to lead us, guide us, comfort us, and help us return to our Father in Heaven. Sheeeeesh already.

If any Mormon “bowed at the alter of Joseph Smith” they would be excommunicated forthwith. We worship the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
Question for you: JR posted something earlier today about Mitt Romney, and I kinda inferred from his post that you were a Mitt supporter-—to clear up any misunderstanding I might harbor, what’s your take on that dude?
For record, I support the Hermanator and consider Mitt a too-well-polished, articulate poser.
