A fatal explosion has hit an Iranian military base near capital Tehran, according to local media reports. There has not been any immediate confirmation of casualties in the blast, which apparently happened in an arms depot belonging to the elite Revolutionary Guards in Bidganeh.
The AFP news agency reports that the force of the blast shattered the windows of homes in the western suburbs of Tehran.
Alireza Jane, an Iranian official responsible for security issues in Tehran's governor's office, told the ISNA student news agency that the blast hit "a military base."
She said the explosion, which was originally reported to have hit a gas distribution station, happened about 12 miles west of Tehran.
A statement on the Revolutionary Guards website said the arms depot belonged tot hem but did not give further details.
There are no details on what may have caused the explosion.

Did you say that his name was Moqaddam? Perhaps he was stoned? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macadam ;-)
Ha. You’re right
Iran exile group claims blast near Tehran hit closely guarded missile base

(Snip)An exiled Iranian dissident group, the Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK, meanwhile claimed that the blast hit a missile base run by the Revolutionary guard rather than an ammunition depot.
Former MEK spokesman Alireza Jafarzadeh, citing what he called reliable sources inside Iran, said that the explosion hit the Modarres Garrison of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps west of Tehran.

My guess is that it was caused by a error in a missile test. The general would not have been there if it was a simple transport of ammo. If my guess is correct then a lot of other key persons in the Iranian missile program are as well dead or wounded.
Can we get any clue from the color of the smoke?
Shahab 3 takes several hours to get ready, as the liquid fuel must be pumped into the missile. Was a leak the cause?

Or is it a solid propellant missile?
“The general would not have been there if it was a simple transport of ammo”
That was my 1st thought. Then I thought he could have just been in an area near enough to be killed.
But there were also reports that they limited the number of paramedics allowed to the site to just like 5 or 6, so I knew they were hiding something significant.
I’ve learned that when IRI puts out a number of casualties, (or arrested) to put a zero after the number and you’re closer to the truth.
That’s MEK trying to make themselves look good by ‘revealing’ what was fairly common knowledge.
“the number of paramedics allowed to the site to just like 5 or 6.”
If they feared that there would be additional explosions, they probably restricted the number of rescue personnel.
How many explosions were reported, one?
“If they feared that there would be additional explosions, they probably restricted the number of rescue personnel.”
lol. This is the regime we’re talking about. Not a gov’t that cares about its citizens.
I read 2 explosions in several reports.
Thanks! It looks like there is there is a source in the harbor. Perhaps it is shipping radwaste or a spurious datapoint?
I wish our CIA was like the MOOSAD.
Thanks AdmSmith.
This site http://www.digarban.com/node/3115 in Persian has compiled names from funerals at different places in Iran and it seems that the number of killed at the explosion was 36. Some of the names are not complete. The poster in the pictures has only 21 faces. Maybe the other 15 died a few days later?
Thank you.
Now they have it in English http://digarban.com/node/3127
Thank you once again.
English...i r gots hole grat big bunchs of noledge abot english! :-)
Iran reminds me of what happens if you mix a case of firecrackers with an unattended 8 year old boy. Something bad is going to happen.
