One of Colorado's top football recruits announced that he no longer intends to play for Penn State.
Joey O'Connor, a 6-foot-4, 295-pound offensive lineman who attends Windsor, decided to reconsider his college options because of the recent scandal at the university.
Joey O'ConnorWe're taking it day by day. I decommitted just to relieve all this pressure off my family, my teammates, my coaches and myself," O'Connor told Windsor Now.
O'Connor said he notified the Penn State coaching staff of his decision, and that he will wait until after the high school season to renew his college recruitment. His team is seeded fifth in the Class 3A state playoffs, and will open postseason play on Saturday.
MaxPreps recruiting expert Tom Lemming has O'Connor rated as one of the top offensive tackles in the country. According to Windsor Now, he had pared his final college choices to Penn State, Utah, UCLA and Tennessee. He said he already has been receiving calls from schools.
"Now, everything's at the same playing field and it's a zero-zero game right now," O'Connor told the newspaper.
While the scandal affected his college choice, O'Connor was most concerned for the victims of the child sex-abuse scandal. He also expressed concern for former Penn State coach Joe Paterno.
"It's a tragedy. My heart goes out to those families and those victims, and it's a shame that they have to go through this," O'Connor told the newspaper. "My thoughts and my prayers are with them."
As for Paterno: "When I was sitting at Coach Paterno's kitchen table it was genuine, and I knew that he was a genuine person. I still believe that. This doesn't take away from everything else that he has accomplished. It's a tragedy, and it breaks my heart to see all this going down."
It is going to be okay, but it is going to take a while. Americans are really not big on homos porking little boys.
If this was truly the case, then why did the Penn State organizers of the pre-game vigil tonight diss the "creed" of heaven & hell among those "faiths" which embrace it -- via that song "Imagine" tonight?
We are well able to restore our institutions good name.
I'm not going to try to be a "prophet" and say whether the name will be restored or not...but I will go this far: If it is, I don't think your "we" will be involved in that...
Because by the time it may be restored...
...the "we" of the student body will have moved on [including some who will deliberately choose to graduate elsewhere]...
...the "we" of the faculty and admin will have either retired or died...
That essentially only leaves the alumni and some generation of future students, faculty, and admins...
Most of those are the "they" -- yet unidentified...
...Not the "we"
I hope the kid goes to Tennessee. Derek Dooley will build a powerhouse there.
Geeze. I did not know all this about pervert Spanier. Obama’s got a gay man/boy activist as his gay schools czar! They are moving in and moving on out of that closet they once used to molest little boys.
Conservatives need to write about this.
“Why were there riots in favor of a child rapist enabler?”
That’s the point...they remind me of those now-unemployed new grads who voted for hopeychangey back in 07’. Brainless and idiotic. Paterno knew. Period.
You might not survive the lawsuits.
You still haven’t even gotten rid of the corrupt coaching staff!
One of my first posts—days ago on this matter—was that Penn State should end their football program for five years and then start again. I believe they will have no choice.
NCAA:
Step up to the plate.
Cancel Penn State’s remaining season before someone is killed by a formerly abused individual seeking revenge.
Announce that this is a non-season for all Penn State football players. They will all be allowed to replay this year’s eligibility. They will also be allowed to transfer to another college (if they so choose) without any loss in eligibility.
It is very difficult to see this as the crime of ‘one’ perpetrator.
Even better...Spanier wrote his Ph. D. thesis on wife swapping.
“Penn State is a community of good and strong people of all faiths and creeds.”
News to me. Covering up for a child rapist for YEARS, cultish hero worship culminating in rioting over a man-god’s firing puts the lie to your claim.
In a generation, maybe.
For now, Penn State is toxic. Between the lawsuits, the loss of revenue and difficulty attracting top talent, (sports and elsewhere) State has a long recovery ahead.
You also better pray that "Michel (Hockey Stick) Mann" and "Penn State" don't appear together in too many news stories.
So, what do my kids do with all their Penn State logo gear?
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, Penn, goo-ood bye!
Of course, Penn could offer some courses taught by NAMBLA and even masters and doctorates in pedophilia boy rape. That would cover at least some of their losses.
I suspect that a majority of the posters here, even the most sanctimonious ones, have at one time or another belonged to an organization or institution in which a tiny minority of members sought to cover up some awful offense. The immoral or unethical behavior of a tiny minority cannot serve as a reflection upon an entire community of good people.
Spanier. If all of this stuff is OK, he surely wouldn’t ming a bit of boy-rape.

Good luck with that...even Rush Limbaugh on air admitted he didn't dare use the word 'homosexual' in connection with this 'scandal'...
A tiny minority?
Just to be clear - YOUR community engaged in civil disturbances because their cult leader got canned for covering up child abuse. Not because kids were harmed but because "Joe Pa" (sheesh how you PSU folks never found that creepy is beyond me) looked the other way to protect his buddy.
Celebrate diversity...that's what got us in this mess in the first place...
The people posting to this forum will be long dead before that happens...
