As I watched the debate Wednesday night between the eight Republican presidential primary opponents, I was overall pleased, both by the way the candidates handled themselves and by the answers they gave to the myriad of economic questions they were asked. It was a debate that I personally think all Republicans won, and while many like myself may think that Perry is finished, the ultimate loser was CNBC. CNBC lost because they could not make the Republican candidates act like a bunch of toddlers fighting over the only toy in the room. The moderators tried their best to get any of the candidates to admit that taxes must be raised to save the economy, but to no avail. All the candidates agreed that raising taxes would be the worst move a president could do. Instead they all called for taxes to be cut, spending to be reduced, and various agencies to be eliminated along with repealing Obamacare.
The moderators also tried to get Cain to stumble in defending himself over the sexual harassment charges against him. That made the audience erupt in boos, expressing their disdain for the question. After Cain answered the question, the moderators tried to lure Romney into the trap of attacking Cain when he was asked if he would hire a man with accusations hanging over his head like Cain. Again the audience booed the question, but Romney would have none of it as he refused to even consider the question. Finally the moderator decided to get back to the economic questions and the charges against Cain were not brought up again.
As for the soundbite or incident the MSM is always looking for so they can ignore talking about the substance of the debate, Perry was gracious enough to give them one. Now as much as I would like to say that the soundbite the MSM is using of Perry is irrelevant to the overall primary race, this time the soundbite is very relevant. The stumble by Perry will go down in history as the final shot that sunk his presidential bid. What makes it so devastating is the fact that he forgot a major part of his economic plan that he was hoping would revive his already faltering campaign. Perry forgot one of the federal agencies he would cut if elected president. While answering a question about the federal tax code, Perry announced that he would eliminate three agencies. What follows is a truncated transcript....

Popcorn? Check.
Oh wait. Where’d the FR Perry Camp head off to now?
I don’t know if he can...I hope so but I’m not banking on it. I am waiting until the end of the month before I decide to go full support of Gingrich.
“Whered the FR Perry Camp head off to now?”
Somebody stole their pup-tent.
you mean the Letterman Top 10 thing didn’t do it?
It don’t matter wat Perry does because Herman Cain will be the nominee.
I’m supporting Cain and Gingrich. Either one. Any order.
Love to see them both on the same ticket in which ever order the majority wants.
Poor Rick Perry....I’m not a big fan, but sure felt bad for him during the debate brain freeze. Happens to many of us, but if you’re like me, it happens more than you’d like.
I’ve been seeing ads today where Perry is saying if you want a good talker and debater we’ve already got one of those and he has just about destroyed the country.
So true.
He seems likeable and he has a decent record - for whatever reason - but I just don’t see him making it at this point.
I’m not necessarily a Perry supporter, but it certainly seems like the media and many on this forum are quick to “pile on”. Has no one ever had a momentary memory lapse? At least he knows there are only 50 states!
Perry’s wife Anita was a guest on our local talk show radio this morning here in Naples, Florida.
She came across like she wasn’t a wife but a mother figure trying to get her son elected for student counsel president.
It was quite disturbing the way she talked about her husband as though he were her little boy.
Yours truly from God’s Waiting Room
Well, he can if he reverses his Open-Border positions.
But don’t count on it.
How many people were watching the debate? I didn’t...
I think he’s done. His money is going to dry up.
He was already coming from behind, being a Texan after the Bush years.
Now he seems like Bush, but without the brains.
I missed the debate, but it sounds like Mitt did the right thing in refusing to fall for the bait the “moderator” threw out. Good on him. (Even a broken clock is right twice a day.)
I am a fierce Perry opponent and have been working against him since the Trans Texas Corridor.
His melt down has been no surprise.
But he isn't an evil cypher, he has been prolife and has fought the EPA.
if he changed on amnesty - which again requires the steps outlined not just a speech - then he could become viable.
He is done for 2012 though.
I am the same way, and that is why i do not get involved in things where I may have to speak publicly.
Wow, as I was typing, My pc just went nuts and all I could see was different colored lines. Then it cam,e back.
Weird.
I better hit enter on this and save a few things I have going in other windows.
This is why I am going with a Mac next time I need a new pc, which is way too often these days.
"Thinking no one other than Obama could hear him, Sarkozy attacked Netanyahu saying, 'I can't stand to see him anymore, he's a liar.'"
Obama responded by whining, 'You're fed up with him, but me, I have to deal with him every day.'"
Now, where is the mainstream media criticism of such petty, gossipy behavior from the Head of State of what, for over 200 years, was considered to be the greatest nation on the face of the earth?
Video card?
“Oooops” is not something I ever want to hear a CIC say. Sorry
