Maybe so but why didn’t he just not investigate the case, or overwrite the files, or take the laptop to Mexico with him?

Computers are traceable. When you connect to the internet, you become traceable whereever you are. When you use internet programs, like email, the authorities know.

So, if he has been in contact with Sandusky at all, since his disappearance, he’s at risk of being found.

You have to totally disconnect if you don’t want to be found.

As far as not prosecuting the case, the most logical answer would be that he may have been part of it, because if his case was merely inadequate, there’s no reason to destroy files. They should be kept incase evidence comes in that makes it prosecutable.

Re-writing or re-formatting the harddrive doesn’t destroy the evidence completely.

If you have the right equipment and know-how, you can reconstitute drives that were written over or re-formatted.

You have to completely destroy the hard drive, if you don’t want the authorities to know what is on it.
