PRINCETON, NJ -- President Obama now essentially ties, 43% to 42%, a "generic" Republican candidate when U.S. registered voters are asked whom they are more likely to vote for in the presidential election next year. This marks a change from October and September, when the Republican candidate was ahead, and underscores the potential for a close presidential race in the year ahead.
The evenness of independents' preferences marks a significant change from September and October, when independents favored the Republican candidate by a significant margin. The current pattern more closely resembles where independents were earlier this year, when Obama and the Republican were evenly matched.

Registered voter poll.
He is a mile below 50% still however !
This is the usual scare tactic to get us to go for a moderate candiate...i.e. “Only McCain can beat Obama”
We’ve seen this movie before.
Good luck America! If bat shit crazy Americans re-elect this idiot, good luck to your kids and their kids!
Yep, the Hussein fellating media has rambled for nearly two weeks now about unproven sexual allegations...kind of like Hussein’s opponents in 2004.
Took the words off my keyboard :^D
In bad economic times, the “undecideds”/”no opinion” break 2/3 for the challenger. In good economic times, it’s the other way around.
These things happen in polling. I’m starting to focus on State by State polls at this point though.
Back to tinkering with the demographics within that poll, though.
Democrats over-represented in terms of their proportion within the population and independents misrepresented in the totals.
Yeah, no bias in this “neutral” poll.
Alinsky tactics are being used, one at a time, on each front runner. The media obeys Hussein.
Haven’t you heard? The media has declared Hussein’s economy fixed!
And yesterday one poll showed him up by 5 and last week up by 1. Polls meaningless at this stage ... whether you like the results or not.
I really thought we had a good chance to unseat Obama.
I’ve lost that winning feeling lately ;-(
You are buying into the Media’s hype...don’t do it!
He’s only at 43%. Doesn’t matter all that much where challenger is polling, since voters dont know much about the challenger. O polling only 43 is not good news for him.
Consider the poll. Registered vs. likely voters are not the same. Also, Gallup skews heavily towards dems which is also not accurate.
Lastly, the MSM attempting to beat up Cain, Perry, etc. probably has lowered the Republican numbers a little.
Still, it is very bad for Hussien. I lost the indi’s and if Cain is anywhere on the ticket, he will loose a big chunk of blacks. State by state, he looks awful.
This is what happens when the political class in the media spends barrels of ink from May to November focusing on the faults of the GOP Candidates. Suddenly, even the generic Republican sucks. Also, we have had a feckless GOP House led by crying John Boehner who hit the ground crawling starting in the lame duck session of 2010.
I don’t believe this poll for a second, considering that every single other poll I’ve seen shows independents abandoning Obama in droves.
I put more stock in Rasmussen’s poll of LIKELY voters. His latest survey spanning Oct. 31 to Nov. 6 shows a “generic” Republican leading Obama 46%-42%.
Not sure why people are putting so much value into a Gallup poll of registered voters one year before the election.
Obama can beat Romney also.
