At today's CNBC debate Texas Gov. Rick Perry was asked a question about his tax and spending plan but completely blew an otherwise strong answer by looking like a complete fool.
Perry was listing the three Cabinet agencies he wants to abolish and forgot the third one.
From the transcript:
Perry: And I will tell you, it is three agencies of government when i get there that are gone. Commerce, Education, and the what's the third one there? Let's see...Okay. Commerce, Education, and the "
Ron Paul: EPA?
Perry: EPA, there you go.
Moderator: Seriously -- is epa one you are talking about?
Perry: No, sir, no, sir. we are talking about the -- agencies of government -- EPA needs to be rebuilt. >>
Moderator: you can't -- you can't name the third one?
Perry: The third agency of government I would -- I would do away with Education, the -- >> Commerce...Commerce and, let's see. I can't. The third one, I can't. Sorry. Oops.
About 15 minutes later, Perry said "It was the Department of Energy that I was reaching for before."

Maybe he needs a teleprompter? Seems I heard of someone who can’t get in front of a crowd without one...
We are electing slick debaters. Almost like auditions to be actors.
Whose is the we you speak of. I had no say in how the process goes and you didn’t either. The Republican nominees EASILY could have gotten together and decided to not do any debates. They made the decision together to have 100 debates or whatever the number is. This is ALL in their hands not the voters. The voters are just watching what THEY themselves decided. If not for the debates, Perry probably would be the nominee, but HE MADE THE DECISION ALONG WITH THE OTHERS TO DO THESE DEBATES!!!! I don’t feel sorry for any of them and don’t take responsibility in their decisions either.
RE: Sigh. Are there any declared candidates out there that arent damaged goods in some way?
This might be a good time for Sarah to reconsider
_______________________
1) What do you mean by damaged goods?
2) You think that the media or false accusers will let Sarah off so easy?
Perry can spend time in quiet retirement at the ranch in Paint Creek reading about those federal agencies he wanted to abolish in his book that someone ghost authored for him.
Well, I have only seen it every 10 minutes today.
Nah, the media didn’t latch on at all. LOL
Every one of the major conservative candidates has been damaged either through self-inflicted wounds (e.g. Perry, Gingrich) or through massive smear campaigns (e.g. Cain, Bachmann).2) You think that the media or false accusers will let Sarah off so easy?
Sarah differs from Cain in that she's a black belt in making her accusers look ridiculous. Cain is doing his best, but his political jiu jitsu skills are nothing compared with Sarah's.
Thanks fireman. I just heard Perry on video this morning and he is definitely NOT quitting. He was as focused on the issues as he could possibly be today. It truly is the media playing “gotcha” that is trying to derail him.
His so-called debate gaffes are so far less serious than those of other candidates and Obama it is ridiculous to even jump on them.
Gov. Rick Perry in 2012!
Last time I checked, the POTUS has a press secretary...
Presidential candidates should stand on their own and voters should be able to trivialize things like body language, smooth talk (think Obama, Clinton, Kerry...), personal style, what they have on their IPod, what they eat, boxers or briefs, etc. If the public is on the ball, they’d be well-informed enough to see past the day before.
It’s too damned bad that Perry’s image problem is how he’s perceived based on such meaningless chicken shit but that’s just the way it is. It’s too damned bad that some people expect a presidential candidate to appear somewhat as a song and dance man or woman. It’s too damned bad that the media tends to make the political process in this country look like just another branch of show biz.
Not only does the POTUS have a press secretary, there’s the Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, CIA Director, Secretary of the Treasury, Secretary of Labor and...oh yeah, what’s that other one again?...Secretary of the Interior...no wait...Secretary of Education...Secretary of Energy?
I think it’s possible, especially nowadays, to over-scrutinize to an extent that it needlessly wastes the reputations of otherwise worthy professionals and individuals.
‘Perfection’ can kiss my ass!
He called people who opposed in-state tuition for illegals “heartless,” that’s where he lost me.
Biden and Zero say stupid things All.The.Time. They are two of the dumbest people ever to hold office I think.
I’m a Cain girl but I can’t fault Perry for a momentary lapse. Goodness knows everyone does it. But he’s a Republican so he’ll be the butt of jokes forever.
Doesn’t anyone read anything that presidential candidates write about and have published?? Debate forums aren’t the only points of access that intelligent voters would be looking for.
I heard that too. However, I know that anything can happen between now and the next debate, campaign event or convention to influence a candidate’s opinions and agenda. It’s going to be an even wilder ride between now and then. I’m looking forward to picking up and putting together the pieces for myself.
