STATE COLLEGE -- More than a thousand Penn State students are moving between the campus and downtown, chanting in support of football coach Joe Paterno, whose job has been questioned over his handling of sex-abuse allegations involving a former coach.
Crowds began to gather around 10 p.m. on Beaver Avenue. After police in riot gear told them to move along, the students moved to Old Main. They sang the alma mater, professed their love for Paterno and profanely denounced Sandusky. They pointed toward Penn State president Graham Spanier's still-lit office. Then, after a brief "back to Beaver" chant, the crowd returned to Beaver Avenue.

It is way past my bedtime & I need to sign off soon. Um, yep, rush to judgment.
I understand the FACTS to be:
Paterno knew about some incident that had an eye witness in 2002. He immediately reported this [to whom??? College police? PSU administrators?].
If he did not pursue it himself, he’s culpable.
Remember Fulghum’s book All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten ??? He had a chapter in there entitled “It was on fire when I lay down on it”.
If JoPa didn’t pursue it, and presumably he did not, then perhaps he was enacting the “It was on fire when I lay down on it” method of dealing with the situation, hmmm ... let me just snooze here and maybe this whole thing will go away.
Err ... it’s my bedtime AND my bed is not on fire.
LOL.
WRKO Radio Boston, MA. Who knows at this time. As John Bachelor is fond of saying the first three reports in the news are false.

They keep talking about a “sex scandal”. My local TV station led off tonight’s news with “the fallout from the Penn State sex scandal”. I’m so sick of the media.
It’s a CHILD RAPE scandal!
But Arne Duncan is on his way to Happy Valley, and he's already mentioned The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.
Act II begins soon...
R U tellin’ me that the Campus Man has more clout than city police, county sherrif or State Police w/respect to the Occupy Wall Street imbroglio / escapades?
WTF?
I have watched and followed Penn State football as long as I can remember, over 45 years. Joe Paterno is and has always been a class act. He is a man of honor and I highly suspect that he will take whatever they throw at him, guilty or not, without resisting for the good of Penn State.
There is more to this story than we are hearing in the news. It involves a missing DA. The article below states a student told Joe about abuse of another student and implies Joe told it to the Athletic Director who with another executive broomed the allegation. Earlier allegations were known to the police and DA. I still think Joe is the convenient scape goat.
Paterno spent 40+ years cultivating his image as the very face of the PSU football program. Rightly or wrongly, he took the credit for all the good that came of that, but an inescapable consequence of having put himself in that position is that (rightly or wrongly) he will find himself in the middle of the bad things as well.
It wasn’t just a student who told Paterno, he was a graduate assistant and now is the wide receivers coach at PSU. Paterno did tell the AD. None of them did the right thing, and they all are culpable. They are all fired, so Paterno isn’t a scapegoat, just the name people recognize.
“So the others who knew and did nothing were only following orders, is that right? Think that excuse would hold up in a court of law?
Plenty of sexual abuse of same sex minors in America’s schools. The media is acting like this is an anomaly.
Planned Parenthood has been exposed routinely covering up child sexual abuse as well, destroying evidence, and permitting abusers to continue their game.”

Whatever post you were responding to with this statement wasn’t mine.
I wonder if the revered statue of "JoePa" will come down at Beaver Stadium?
It's in the report:
On March 1, 2002, a Penn State graduate assistant who was then 28 years old, entered the locker room at the Lasch Football Building on the University Park Campus on a Friday night before the beginning of Spring Break. The graduate assistant, who was familiar with Sandusky, was going to put some newly purchased sneakers in his locker and get some recruiting tapes to watch. It was about 9:30 p.m. As the graduate assistant entered the locker room doors, he was surprised to find the lights and showers on. He then heard rhythmic slapping sounds. He believed the sounds to be those of sexual activity. As the graduate assistant put the sneakers in his locker, he looked in the shower. He saw a naked boy, Victim 2, whose age he estimated to be ten years old, with his hands up against the wall, being subjected to anal intercourse by a naked Sandusky. The graduate assistant was shocked but noticed that both Victim 2 and Sandusky saw him. The graduate assistant left immediately, distraught.
The graduate assistant went to his office and called his father, reporting to him what he had seen. His father told the graduate assistant to leave the building and come to his home. The graduate assistant and his father decided that the graduate assistant had to promptly report what he had seen to Coach Joe Paterno, head football coach of Penn State. The next morning, a Saturday, the graduate assistant telephoned Paterno and went to Paterno's home, where he reported what he had seen.
Joseph V. Paterno testified to receiving the graduate assistant's report at his home on a Saturday morning. Paterno testified that the graduate assistant was very upset. Paterno called Tim Curley, Penn State Athletic Director and Paterno's immediate superior, to his home the very next day, a Sunday, and reported to him that the graduate assistant had seen Jerry Sandusky in the Lasch Building showers fondling or doing something of a sexual nature to a young boy.
Paterno did not immediately report this, but waited 24 hours before offering a much milder account to his AD.
I haven’t seen Penn State students this upset since they found out they didn’t get accepted to Purdue.
:)
In a nation with thousands of such cases annually, it is odd that this man is being hounded by the press. You suggested he ran the school as his own kingdom. Others held their tongues then? They are just as guilty and that pecking order could run into double digits of those who knew and “did nothing”.
I still can’t figure why all this is going on while there hasn’t even been a preliminary hearing yet! Everybody’s doing “speed justice” here for sure! Does no one realize that canning Paterno and the Prez before there has even been a hearing plays into the hands of Sandusky’s defense?
Did those boys/parents come forward?
LOL!
Did the parents of the 10 yr old boy go to the police at the time, do you know? Or perhaps he was too afraid/ashamed to tell his parents. Since he should be 19 now - any word from him? And any word from the graduate ass’t - do we know who he is?
