BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- Like many of her classmates and University of North Dakota students who came before her, senior Annie Hessinger says it doesn't matter that the school is shedding its 81-year-old nickname after a drawn-out dispute with the NCAA. She's Fighting Sioux and always will be, no matter what new nickname the school eventually picks.
She'll still wear clothing bearing the Fighting Sioux logo, a colorful profile of an American Indian warrior's head.

North Dakota Fighting Panderers
Another FReeper said it best. (Can’t remember who). They should change their name to “The Fighting Sue”. Let the shyster lawyers figure it out.
This is one alumni they’ll never get another dime from.
I hate the NCAA.
A week ago, the Sioux Tribe in ND sued the NCAA because they WANT UND to use their name—they gave the University “eternal” rights to use of the nickname Fighting Sioux in an official ceremony; and many if not most people there like the nickname...probably reason why the Legislature voted to keep the name—the public wanted it.
Not sure why Governor went above the Legislature or why Univ. President is kowtowing to the NCAA, but will be interesting to see how court rules on the Sioux tribe’s lawsuit; they are suing on 12 counts...
Sad example of elitists (in this case the NCAA) thinks it knows better than the people involved.
