...The Easton Express-Times is reporting the Penn State president Graham Spanier will by out -- either by resignation or firing -- by the end of the day.

Easton Express-Times

Penn State University President Graham Spanier will either resign or be voted out by the end of today, a source close to the board of trustees told The Express-Times.

An interim president, most likely Executive Vice President and Provost Rodney A. Erickson, will be appointed and a nationwide search for a permanent replacement will begin...

Spanier was made aware in 2002 that a graduate assistant coach had seen former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky allegedly sexually assault a young boy in a shower in the Penn State locker room, according to grand jury testimony. Spanier did not involve police, according to testimony. Spanier has not been charged, but there have been many calls for his resignation.

What did they expect when they let the homosexual genie out of Pandora’s closet?

Had he taken it upon himself to go to the police with an accusation against Sandusky, this would have been headline news. And if that accusation had proven false, Joe Paterno would have been fired and subject to a probable libel lawsuit.......

That is no longer the law in Pennsylvania. You are REQUIRED to report any incident of child sex abuse that comes to your attention. And you are shielded from liability for doing so.

That law was passed in response to the Catholic Church scandals. I do not know if it was in effect at the time McQuade caught Sandusky in the shower.

More likely the headlines would have driven away recruits and Sandusky would have dumped any dirt he had on the program at that point. It was never about the kids.

He did the right thing years ago......The Grand Jury affirmed it.

The grand jury was only determining legal guilt. They had no say as to what was the right thing to do. The right thing to do would have been to STOP Sandusky. Anyone that knew that Sandusky was raping boys and did not act to stop it to the best of their ability is GUILTY of not doing the right and moral thing. Lawyers hide behind 'technicalities'. Why are you?

Sorry but Paterno did his job by immediately reporting what was relayed to him to the Athletic Director.

How do you define the word "immediate?" Let's say 'twas YOUR son who had been raped...?

Friday night: The rape occurs
Saturday during day: Say your son's coach hears an eyewitness account.
Saturday afternoon: Report passed on? (No)
Saturday night: Report passed on? (No)
Sunday: Report passed on? (Finally)

So Paterno knows the urgency of a hurry-up offense late in the game when they are down, but not the urgency of a felony report where children remain at risk?

Come on. Don't dumb down this crime and its tangled web of immoral responses.

It was not his responsibility to investigate. It was not his responsibility to make a possible false claim to the police department as many are accusing him of not doing. [Hot Tabasco]

Obviously it would be "reasonable" for Joe to believe it was "handled" once he passed it off that Sunday. But come on, we're talking March 2002. You'd think that by the time 2003 rolled around and Sandusky had never been arrested & he was still doing his 2003 sports camps that Joe just might get a clue that some follow-up/follow-thru was needed. (Ya think?)

Now here we are over 9.5 years later? Sandusky still had access to the main Penn State campus last week. Sandusky still ran sports camps thru 2008 at Penn State satellite campuses.

Why how "vigilant" of JoePa to do the "virtuous" thing long-term.../s NOT!!!

I also like forthedeclaration's point: What? Had Joe passed on an eyewitness report of a murder to superiors, that would have been "enough?"

Give us a break. Just pick any felony, HT, and tell us it would have been "enough" to just pass the buck once and then wash your hands of it the rest of your life! Even as you constantly bump into the perpetrator continuing to use the campus facilities!

...had fulfilled any INITIAL obligation he had in this sad incident.

Yeah, well you got this pegged by qualifying it with "initial."

And it's sad that you have taken the lame ethical stance here...one I'll describe as doing the "bare minimum legal approach" to ethics. This approach is pathetic, horrific, repulsive and sickening when you consider the context of these crimes; and if you're a proponent of these kind of "ethics," then all of these qualifiers apply to you as well!

As I said, Paterno did exactly what was required of him under the extremely extenuating circumstances..........

What unbelievable bullcrap you've spewed here.

If someone comes to you with an eyewitness account of how a young boy is being anally raped in a facility and program you're responsible for, YOU CALL THE POLICE!

Paterno is going to be allowed to retire at the “end of the season.” Frankly, this Saturday’s home game (the last home date of the season, “Senior Day”) is going to be a 3-Ring Circus if they don’t get him out before then. I can’t see how the university can permit that.

They're going to permit it, cause that is what they do, that is what they live for. That is why this was all swept under the rug so many years ago. It's all for the fame & glory & forget about the kids who were vicimized!!! Disgusting!

The GJ report doesn't address Paterno's actions. In fact it doesn't resolve the conflict between Joe's version & those of other witnesses, namely McQueary's. The DA basically said that Paterno is not legally in jeopardy. But that's largely window dressing. Paterno is going to cooperate with the prosecutor. That much was announced already.

Paterno is going to paint the picture that puts away the 2 PSU administrators. And in return the prosecutor will not charge him with anything. The whole thing stinks, but that's the way cases like this are often brought.

I am getting tired of responding to some of these posters. May I have the freedom to copy/paste your above state at will? Thanks.

Likely the same guy who allowed the whitewash of Mike Mann’s efforts to shove his hockey stick up the world’s collective butt.

Just checking. For the last 15 years I’ve seen the negative headlines about PSU (non football) piling up and kept thinking, “What the hell is going on up there.” Now I know.

There is nothing funny about what happened to the children in this case. I have the utmost sympathy for them & their families.

With that being said (which I feel was necessary) the jokes have started & this situation is not going away.

Here is one I read on a college sports board: not really funny, but something that may stick with that school for a long time!

You know what they call an old broad who's into young boys - a cougar!

Now we have a name for an old man who has the same interest - a Nittany Lion

The grand jury was only determining legal guilt.

Mmmm... I think that the GJ was 'led' a little bit by the DA. The old saying, "A good prosecutor could get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich" may apply here. I read the GJ report. It's full of gaps between what Person A "said" versus what Person B "heard". Little attempt was made to get at the inconsistencies. The GJ must determine if a crime was committed, and who to indict. I think that a reasonable person could conclude that Paterno lied, as well as violated the law in much the same way as Spanier, Curley & Shultz.

Joe kept quiet while Sandusky raped.

Joe reported the unsubstantiated allegation immediately to the Athletic Director.......Joe fulfilled his obligation.

The Grand Jury that investigated the incident has affirmed my statement.

“If someone comes to you with an eyewitness account of how a young boy is being anally raped in a facility and program you’re responsible for, YOU CALL THE POLICE!”

Amen. BTW, Sandusky had 24/7 access to the football facilities if JoePa wanted him gone he would have been gone. Period. This BS about him not being my employee anymore is well just BS.

Who gets emeritus status at an Assistant Professor level?

Why are you?

I'm not.......Paterno fulfilled his legal obligation as mentioned by the Grand Jury. Forget the facts that are exonerating Paterno, why are you so hell bent in condemning this guy?

I suspect you fall in with the category of the rest of the liberal elitists who love nothing better than taking down a highly respected icon in whatever genre they are engaged in.......be it John Wayne in Hollywood or Joe Paterno in college football.
