Summary: Its official, Adobe is putting its future mobile video efforts behind HTML5. So, do you really think that desktop Flash will survive for long?
Adobes love affair with its Flash format has come to an end. Oh sure, Adobe said they were just killing development on mobile browser Flash in favor of HTML5, but seriously, do you think, that theyll keep working on Flash on the desktop for much longer? If you do, I have a nice, lightly-used bridge in Brooklyn Id like to sell you. No, the end of Flash is in sight and HTML5 is now the one true future for Internet video.

When the hell is HTML going to die? Nothing like putting scotch tape on a dirty diaper.
Most of you have no idea what Adobe just said.
Flash is not dead, even on the mobile. They are not supporting the flash PLAYER on the mobile browsers anymore.
Adobe AIR (built in Flash Builder/Flex) is used to build apps on iPhones and Droid.
For PC online gaming and elearning, HTML5 isn’t even a player.
Next, please kill PDF. I hate it. Slow. Resource hog. Requires another application just to read text.
If nobody profits from selling HTML5 there is nobody to sue. Who wants to be the guy who sues everyone who owns a website? The most hated man in the world!
Yeah, Firefox ain’t what it used to be. Everyone went to it because it was simple, fast and easy. Now with all the plug-in and add-ons it gets buggy.
I like the add-on that stops web pages from automatically running video/sound. This should be automatic in a browser, imho.
What do you know about the Maxthon3 browser?
Not true. PDF files are used extensively because is it cross platform and renders accurately. It is the reader that is the hog and you can do something about that. Foxit PDF reader replaces Adobe Reader and is lightweight, fast, and trouble-free. Google, DL, install, then if you like uninstall that nasty Adobe reader. And if you pay a little bit, get the pro version and you can edit PDF files too. I cannot say enough good about it. Don't suffer, do something about it.
I don’t know about it. Haven’t used it.
I won’t miss the several times per week (after week, after weei) updates that non-admin users can’t install.
“It’ll be dead on the mobile side if there are no players going forward”
No, it won’t. AIR doesn’t run in the player. It runs as a native app.
AIR is awesome. Building for iPHones and Droid at the same time is much preferred.
The new 3D capability of Flash 11 is really cool. You can run Unity through it and the Unreal engine.
And HTML5 will require Microsoft, Apple, Google, and Mozilla to work together and standardized. Microsoft will find a way to screw it up (just like Java, CSS, etc).
This is actually missing the point. JavaScript is really old. Actionscript is actually a later version of ECMAscript. There needs to be a standard that replaces JavaScript. HTML5 will get there, but it hasn’t completely yet.
Thanks Swordmaker. Gotta be Apple’s fault, not the marketplace. :’)
BTTT
JavaScript is alive and well. ECMAScript 5 is the latest version, and the next version is under development. Server-side JavaScript is also alive and well with Node.js.
Actionscript is Adobe's fork of JavaScript. Nobody else uses it. It's not a standard. Adobe thought they could high-jack the standards committee. Well, it didn't' turn out that way.
