The Obama administration has given the green light for a new fee of 15 cents on all Christmas trees.
The new tax will be used to raise funds for an advertising campaign promoting the benefits of live trees, as opposed to artificial ones. The tax is expected to raise approximately $2 million, according to McClatchy News.
A 12-member board will be charged with directing the funds toward advertising and research ventures.
The industry was divided on the issue. Nineteen states grower organizations lit up at the prospect of the tax, while Christmas tree growers in Texas and Vermont generally opposed it, according to the McClatchy and the Chicago Tribune.

Personally I think it’s a subsidy for Vacuum Cleaner bag manufacturers.
How about a .15 tax on prayer rugs?
If this goes through, we will not be buying a tree.
Let’s see if he taxes anything related to Islam.

so... the president can invent taxes all by himself?
I must have missed that in the constitution
Shouldnt that be a “Holiday Tree” tax? /s
Did congress decide this tax? I don’t see where it says they did. Am I missing it? (I’m on medication for my tooth and my head is fuzzy)
A tax to advertise the benefits of live trees over fake ones. Ah ha ha haha ha! Yeah just as soon as they use 100% of the money for entitlement programs.

We keep asking that...why aren’t the Republicans in Congress asking that too?

Didn’t you hear? A few weks ago Noobama said he wished he could bypass Congress, so he went ahead and did.
I think it is, and as such is illegal.
Thanks for link.
Really it is part of the jobs plans
15 cents on each tree, $5.00 in estimated overhead to process, collect and pay the 15 cents on each tree. It is just the way a liberal thinks. How can I figure out more ways to keep government workers employed.
How the hell can a department impose a tax? Even King George III had to go through Parliament to impose taxes on us. Christmas tree dealers should refuse to pay it.
Do You really think they will? Many are just trying to put a buck together. by the time the season comes and goes, they will also have come and gone.
No paper trail, especially if they do sales under a different business name.
What is scary are the little non-profits that will get tagged later by some stupid bureaucrat and send a big demand for unpaid taxes.
