A chronological look at the case against former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, based on a grand jury report in Pennsylvania state court. Some key dates in Penn State football history are included. Sandusky has been charged with 40 criminal counts, accusing him of serial sex abuse of minors.

So sad. Joe P. joins the ranks of Woody Hayse
No coincidence there?
No quietly enforced resignation from the AD and or PSU admins in charge?
No "keep this scandal under wraps" in exchange if he just goes quietly out the Penn State door?
And Joe Paterno never heard a word breathed about all of what Sandusky was interrogated for; or why he "resigned?"
We're all to assume that Paterno was 100% surprised by Sandusky's shower behavior from March of '02?
Well, if we can't assume some of the above, then that runs both ways. Others can't assume some of the scenarios stated above aren't "so" as well.
To my mind a red flag is always raised when some grown man opens a foundation for the express purpose of helping “troubled youth.” Maybe that’s unfair, but “where the boys are” is where the perverts are going to be.
If this is true it is one of the most vile and disgusting things I have heard in a long time. The idea that any person would not report something like this to law enforcement is unimaginable. This is especially true when they knew that this man continued to have contact with vulnerable children after they became aware of it.
God help them if this was done to preserve their own reputations! There may be statute of limitations issues legally from what I have read but there should be no statute on their reputations. That includes Joe Paterno too.
This is so absolutely horrible.
How apalling that Jo-Pa apparently did a perfunctory report and then went on with business as usual for another decade of seeing this old predator showing up at games etc with his little victims
I can tell you that if someone told me about an old man raping a boy in the university locker room I’d have made sure the bastard was locked up or ridden out of the university community on a rail
What is it with men and the pack mentality? Seen it also in the churches ...
The “me” mentality is alive and well. Unfortunately, you also see it in church despite the teachings of Christ.
College football is a big business and big passion and it has caused many men to do stupid things but this one takes the cake if it’s true. I am certain these men were more concerned with “the program” than doing the right thing. It’s why rich men funnel money to 18 year old kids to influence where they play college ball. It becomes a mental disorder in my opinion.
The idea that a man could witness a child being raped and not call the police himself is a perfect demonstration. Three wealthy and successful adults knew about this and did not report it. The Janitor knew about it and made the wrong decision.
Disgusting!
Everyone focuses on Paterno because he is famous. However, the most troubling thing here is the various Penn State employees who claim to have witnessed adult-child sex acts, but who did not call police and did not even interrupt the sex acts.
From the article:
“1998: Victim 6 is taken into the locker rooms and showers when he is 11 years old. When Victim 6 is dropped off at home, his hair is wet from showering with Sandusky. His mother reports the incident to the university police, who investigate.
Detective Ronald Schreffler testifies that he and State College Police Department Detective Ralph Ralston, with the consent of the mother of Victim 6, eavesdrop on two conversations the mother of Victim 6 has with Sandusky. Sandusky says he has showered with other boys and Victim 6’s mother tries to make Sandusky promise never to shower with a boy again but he will not. At the end of the second conversation, after Sandusky is told he cannot see Victim 6 anymore, Schreffler testifies Sandusky says, ‘’I understand. I was wrong. I wish I could get forgiveness. I know I won’t get it from you. I wish I were dead.’’
Jerry Lauro, an investigator with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, testifies he and Schreffler interviewed Sandusky, and that Sandusky admits showering naked with Victim 6, admits to hugging Victim 6 while in the shower and admits that it was wrong.
The case is closed after then-Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar decides there will be no criminal charge.”
Why on EARTH were no charges filed then? This Ray Gricar is also culpable. (NOT excusing a single PSU official, lock ‘em all up!)
PROTECTING THE BRAND, and protecting Pedophile State’s status as one of the most gay-friendly schools in the country was FAR more important to these people than the welfare of any child.
If true, I think Paterno is just as guilty as anyone else involved. Paterno knew that Sandusky continued to have frequent contact with children and never followed it up?
This story is sick beyond imagination. We are talking about child rape! There is no doubt that it was reported to Paterno and he punted. Sorry, in my book you can’t punt moral responsibility to someone else. In my book you don’t allow continued contact with children by a possible pedophile until you are satisfied it’s not true. In my book, I can’t believe an honorable man would not follow up a report of child rape anywhere, much less in his own locker room.
“More shocking than anything else to me, WE are PAYING these criminals. And most will still get lucrative retirement and benefits packages far into the future. So, like Spanier will continue to draw his multi 100k salary and benefit package for YEARS on our dole.
Government employees need to be removed with prejudice when they break the duty they owed the citizens and the children.”
####
I share your outrage.
Even putting aside the disgusting fiscal criminality of the ongoing feeding trough for even felonious government parasites, it palpably illustrates the mindset that public employees are bulletproof.
No matter what, they keep collecting those fat paychecks (often for doing next to nothing) and worse yet, the overstuffed benefits and pension packages, which ultimately cost the rest of us so much more.
It seems inexplicable that incident would lead to no charges.
Check the story linked in post 5 for a possible answer.
Holy cow!
I remember that case! He was the one who was supposed to be investigating Sandusky? Wow!
So, next question is, who was responsible for picking up Gricar’s cases?
Well! That will teach me to click every link! That is unfreakingbelievable.
I would be inclined to say that it is possible (geez, that was weasel-esque) that his disappearance had nothing whatsoever to do with Sandusky, and could have had something to do with any of his other cases, or nothing at all with a case.
That missing hard-drive, and his searches on how to destroy one (I used my log splitter once, jolly fun!) are just freaky. What case would you need to have all data disappear for?
This case seems like a darned likely candidate. Witness the fall-out.
” Everyone focuses on Paterno because he is famous. However, the most troubling thing here is the various Penn State employees who claim to have witnessed adult-child sex acts, but who did not call police and did not even interrupt the sex acts.”
... had Joe have known about in that way, he would have beat the guy to death himself
this SHOW is nothing but a media driven, head hunting, attempt to take down a famous old man for reason beyond his actual control over another person
where are all those higher commands in Ft Hood and FBI, and CIA that KNEW about the muslime shooter ... BEFORE he started shooting?
