President Obama’s Agriculture Department today announced that it will impose a new 15-cent charge on all fresh Christmas trees—the Christmas Tree Tax—to support a new Federal program to improve the image and marketing of Christmas trees.

In the Federal Register of November 8, 2011, Acting Administrator of Agricultural Marketing David R. Shipman announced that the Secretary of Agriculture will appoint a Christmas Tree Promotion Board. The purpose of the Board is to run a “program of promotion, research, evaluation, and information designed to strengthen the Christmas tree industry’s position in the marketplace; maintain and expend existing markets for Christmas trees; and to carry out programs, plans, and projects designed to provide maximum benefits to the Christmas tree industry” (7 CFR 1214.46(n)). And the program of “information” is to include efforts to “enhance the image of Christmas trees and the Christmas tree industry in the United States” (7 CFR 1214.10).

STOOPID....then....the gov’t should NOT be running it....an Association who elects its own officers should be running it....next thing we know....every tree in the forest will have a tax on it...cause, well, you have to have gov’t market them! (Especially since the government owns so much forestland.)

A little further clarification - members of these national Boards come from nominations from organizations in each state. Further information on the check off programs is available here:

Shocking!! If there is a tax involved they refer to it as a Christmas tree, otherwise it is a holiday tree.

Most of the producer groups that opt for these mandatory assessments administered by USDA do so to avoid the free rider program. Since the check offs support generic promotion and not a particular brand or region, all producers are seen to benefit. Voluntary check off programs have been tried in the past and generally failed.

You haven't seen anything yet. Wait until they kick off HR2751 FDA Food Safety Bill (Food production takeover). The one they passed in secret at night during the last hours of the Lame Duck Session of the last Congress. The only place you can find the final bill is at the Government Printing Office, if you have the public law number. They did not want that little baby tracked. For vote, discussion or content of the bill.

>>>The problem will go away when they are removed from power.

Not likley. For example, Reagan's tax on Milk ($0.15 per cwt) went into effect in 1983. Reagan's tax on Beef ($1 per head) went into effect in 1986. Reagan's tax on Pork ($0.40 per $100 of vlaue) went into effect in 1985.

This looks scary. The Excutive branch by passing the Legislative Branch and imposing a tax on an agricultural product.

Since when did the Constitution give the President the power to tax.

What's to keep Him and these money hungry leeches from imposing taxes on the other agricultural products such as all produce, fresh, canned or frozen?

Are they trying to set a precedent for a national sales tax/ value added tax, on goods and to do so without the American people having proper representation?

It wouldn't surprise me if they do it and these bunch of spend crazy spineless Congressmen let them do it so they can get more money to blow and say their is nothing they can do,so they can shun their responsibility and hide behind the executive branch like they are hiding behind this so called Super Committee.

How long before the brain dead American people wake up from this madhouse of greed and corruption and the rape of our Constitution, our property, our money, our country and our freedoms.

All this by a bunch of bought and paid for self-serving political extortioners and the rich and powerful masters that bankroll their campaigns and divide the take of the American people each year.

I guess we don't have to wake up because they are are getting so bold and sure of themselves and us that they don't even try very hard to cover their disregard or the laws of our Constitution and country.

Why should they? They only make them to take and spend our money and to keep us in line. They ignore any and all that interfere with their desires.

With enough desperate people it will come to pitchfork and torch time.

The coming 2012 election is just the preliminary. Past that we must remove the Commies who are entrenched in government. The only way to accomplish that is to eliminate entire departments of government. Yes, I did not stutter. Close the U.S. Department of Education including their SWAT teams, close the EPA, close BATF, close Homeland Security. Any worthwhile functions can be returned to the states to administer more efficiently. This is the only way to remove the problems from government, but eliminating their jobs, all of them.

It is TIME to DownSize DC!

A lot of people do not like Rick Perry, but he is right a sledge hammer or a wrecking ball is what is needed to FIX Washington DC.

I see someone beat me to it.

This is more In Your Face—the game Obama loves to play with conservatives and Christians.

“Let’s see. What can we do to drive them up the wall next?”

Remember the saying “Whom the gods would destroy, they first make angry.” Don’t fall in the trap. Don’t get angry, just get rid of him.
