One of the questions surrounding the sex-abuse case against Jerry Sandusky is why a former district attorney chose not to prosecute the then-Penn State assistant coach in 1998 after reports surfaced that he had inappropriate interactions with a boy.
The answer is unknowable because of an unsolved mystery: What happened to Ray Gricar, the Centre County, Pa., district attorney?
Gricar went missing in April 2005. The murky circumstances surrounding his disappearance an abandoned car, a laptop recovered months later in a river without a hard drive, his body was never found have spawned Web sites, television programs and conspiracy theories. More than six years later, the police still receive tips and reports of sightings.

I believe you and the other poster are having a misunderstanding, and you are both on the same side. The other poster was just pointing out the incident that got the current investigation started. The 1998 incident, also a victim’s mothers complaint, was the investigation led by currently missing DA Gricar. In that investigation, the police had Sandusky on tape admitting to the mother his crime. DA Gricar did not prosecute, even thou the evidence seemed solid. We will never know why for sure, we can speculate, since Gricar has disappeared from the Earth, and according to his fellow prosecutors he handled this case close to the vest. They have no idea either. As for Paterno, he is a liar and knew about all these investigations. If one of his players spit on the sidewalk, he would know from the local police. That is the way it is done in these college towns. His true character has been exposed. As of today he is still more concerned that he is coaching a football game on Saturday than with what happened to 20 and climbing victims who’s lives have been ruined for ever.
On WFAN today, host Mike Francesa stated that if this happened to Bear Bryant,Bryant would have broke Sandusky’s neck with his own hands.
Diplomatic too.
I commend you.
And I apologize to you, onona, for not picking up that we're on the same page.
Off to bed now. 'Night!
As for the ex-QB, this guy has no soul. He witnesses the despicable act, makes eye contact with the perp and victim, and then walks away. For all he knew, Sandusky murdered and disposed of the kid an hour later. Then for the next nine years has frequent contact on campus and at practice with the predator like nothing happened. After all this, Sandusky must have believed he could have buggered a nine year old on the fifty yard line and no one would do anything about it.
It appears that the Catholic Church has become Satan’s playground and far too many are far too willing to play ball!
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Maybe, but the DA declined to prosecute in 1998, and then didn’t disappear until 2005.
It took them seven years to bump him off?
Your post is rather creepy. If I found the guy to which you refer, then he was an assistant baseball coach at a boarding school. After being a head coach for a major university. Very disturbing.
Personally, I thnk the DA succumbed to the guilt of letting PSU pressure him into not pressing charges and offed himself.
As for the Grad Asst, not only did he not call the cops and not leave the program as his father reportedly suggested, he landed a cush job as an assistant coach. He’s the redhead you see prominently on display on the sidelines every game day. Apparently, he’s a great negotiator when it comes to putting a price on his silence.
Back in the 70's when I was an undergrad, my friends who worked the health center told me about the stifling of information regarding campus suicides and rapes. Most campuses covered up negative statistics back then, but at Penn State the protective attitude was incredibly powerful. There were and still are stories of how Paterno had an agreement with the local PD that he would handle disciplinary actions when the football players broke the law. There are also stories that Sue Paterno had disturbing DUI violations were covered up.
The love - and therefore the donations, endowments and image marketing - for PSU runs so deep in fans and alumni that preserving the image became an acceptable part of the loyalty package.
Let me just add,
Those of us who love Penn State and Joe Paterno are deeply affected and emotionally racked by the recent developments, the way any of you would be crushed by the same allegations against a family member.
The trouble with EVIL is that it can advance its cause by occasionally performing GOOD....the trouble with GOOD is that it can do no EVIL, or it immediately loses the value of its cause.
I’m a PSU alum myself. I don’t doubt the football uber alles mentality one bit, nor is that obviously limited to Penn State. Stories abound at all schools, and are usually met with with shrugs of “Hey, it’s just football”. It’s a billion dollar industry after all. Well, now we see that what that mentality can lead to. The whole thing was business as usual. Protect the program at all costs. I guess nobody realized how high the costs could get. The whole thing is shameful. Everybody from the McQueary on up to Spanier should be fired. Fired, not given the chance to resign. I saw Paterno on the news last night greeting the idjits who rallied at his house in support. The man clearly does NOT get it, and never will.
No I wasn’t meaning Paterno. I didn’t word it right....sorry. :-) My question was pertaining the assistant coach having possible ties to the mob due to child pornography and a ‘pedo ring’. It will be interesting to see the facts as things come out in the wash.
I have family up in PA and a niece and nephew who are graduates of Penn State. Sis’ says all of this is really ‘rocking their world’ up there. Incredibly sad. :-(
I remember seeing a story on one of the cable channels about Gricar.
You got that right.
“No I wasnt meaning Paterno. I didnt word it right....sorry. :-) My question was pertaining the assistant coach having possible ties to the mob due to child pornography and a pedo ring.”
You might not have been off the mark if you were including Paterno. The guy doesn’t appear to be the saint he’s been portrayed as. He has to go today, not at the end of the season
It took them seven years to bump him off?
Ummm .He’s not dead, he faked suicide and vanished. May have nothing to do with this, but looks suspicious
The DA chose not to prosecute in 1998 in deference to PSU football image
It’ certainly does. I’m sure it will ‘come out in the wash’....but we’re talking BIG MONEY involved, here, with an athletic program. There is NO TELLING the rabbit hole that may be uncovered.
Gawd!!!! Those poor kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
