Is that it? When I was young, bookkeeping jobs seemed to be the purview of sour, dried up spinsters. I can still remember the horror I worked for at Douglas-Elliman. She probably joined the Turf Club years ago, but I remember her as if it was yesterday.

OMG, you just described my book keeper!!! AND she’s into the occult now. A grown 55 year old woman who wants to be a vampire!!

She started wearing a pentagram and shoved it in my face. She’s also into to spells, incantations, etc.

EVIL woman!

Wait a minute, my mother was a bookkeeper and she was neither a sour and dried up or a spinster. She was a comptometer operator, who spent her days correcting the tally sheets for salesmen who could neither add nor subtract. Only after correcting the men’s mistakes, could she get on with the company books.

...and yes she had lots of problems with the men she worked for. The worst one called her into his office and exposed himself to her. She didn’t file a complaint, she just cleaned out her desk and went home.
