About 50 minutes before it was about to begin, PSU administrators canceled Joe Paterno's weekly news conference Tuesday.
Penn State administrators have canceled Joe Paterno's weekly news conference in which he was expected to field questions about a sex abuse scandal involving a former assistant coach.
Paterno's son Scott tells The Associated Press on Tuesday that the decision was made by President Graham Spanier's office.
Scott Paterno says his father was disappointed and was prepared to take questions about the scandal as well as the upcoming game against Nebraska.
Rocked by an alleged child sex abuse scandal, Penn State issued a statement late Monday saying that Paterno will only answer questions about football Tuesday during his regularly scheduled press conference.

Paterno had no power over him? You mean Paterno has no power over who has access to the football facilities? Sandusky had full access to the facilities up till literally days ago. At a bare BARE minimum Paterno should have gotten him the hell out of there as soon as he found out about this.
Go ahead. Keep apologizing. Are you a catholic priest? You’re acting just as blind to abuse as they were.

thanks....!
wow..great info.
time to let them know what we think of this tragedy.
To: NewinTexsas
Good point. But even at 28, dealing with someone this big, I might have called my old man and asked him what to do.
To: edcoil
Good Lord!
I heard he apologized to the family of that boy...(.And they blame the church that it is the only corrupt group.yeesh)...Guess this whole thing should come out..
wonder if this goes on in other colleges (yeah, I’m naive) and if this will make any difference at least in busting these pedophiles !

Good point. But even at 28, dealing with someone this big, I might have called my old man and asked him what to do. McQueary dealt with bigger as a starting quarterback for PSU. Besides he had thirty years on the guy.
To: WPaCon
Its funny that you think he makes too much money. The guy has been underpaid his whole career, and showing that he lost two games last year means virtually nothing. You just have an agenda. I said he was worth every cent. BTW, he lost a lot more than two games last year ...
To: WPaCon
You just have an agenda. Yes. Justice for all the little boys that were raped by Sandusky.
To: bigdaddy45
I think calling your father in that situation is a logical response. Dad... you cant believe what I saw!! What do I do?? Logical responses would be to:
1. Stop Sandusky and protect the kid
2. Call 911.

The Gricar case needs to be reopened. It was never seriouly or professionally investigated here.
PA Attorney General Linda Kelly has the qualifications and credibility to do a real investigation. I hope she takes this on.

IMHO the grad assistant (McQuarry, and his Dad, who was with him when McQuarry told Paterno) should have reported it to the police immediately after reporting it to Paterno as it was done.
The GA McQuarry ultimately got a job over other candidates seeking an assistant coaching position with the Penn State team. This placement could be perceived as a favor for his silence, loyalty and cooperation.
To: NewinTexsas
McQuery grew up in State College with JoePa’s kids and Sandusky’s kids too.
So...he wasn’t just looking at a rape - a former coach - he was looking at a guy he’d known since childhood.
He was looking at his childhood friends’ dad.
I’m beginning to understand why he was so freaked.

"Hadnt the university already told Sandusky he wasnt to bring boys into the showers after the 1998 incident?"
I'm not sure. There was a lot of white washing going on. And these students holding a ralley outside Joepa's house yesterday, what are they thinking???? Maybe I'm going crazy because it seems to me that everyone else is going crazy.
To: Tublecane
"Thats ridiculous. There is no authority in the administration in regard to the law. If you want to report a crime, you go to a legal authority, not an educational authority."
I agree with you. From the State Attorney General's press conference, it appears that they will not go after JoPa legally. So it appears from a legal standpoint, he did what was required of him and is in the clear legally speaking. It's a shame, but true.
To: ontap
"Hes legaly obligated !!!"
You need to tell this to the State Attorney General. During her press conference, she all but said they aren't going after JoePa in this investigation. He did what was required. That's when the State Police Chief made his statement:
Paterno may have fulfilled his legal requirement to report suspected abuse by former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, state police commissioner Frank Noonan said, "but somebody has to question about what I would consider the moral requirements for a human being that knows of sexual things that are taking place with a child."

From reading that statement, it appears that they don't believe they can go after him legally.
To: Old Teufel Hunden
I doubt most of them have read the presentment...or will take the time to do so.
I know that I was on JoePa’s side until after I read it.
Add in the fact that he is now very well on and frail....they feel protective of him.
I see them posting on fb that more people are focused on JoePa and not Sandusky himself.
Not that they are right....they are kids and haven’t thought things through yet.
This is going to drag on and on.
Eventually a more clear picture is going to emerge.

"with WHAT???"
Are you serious? Are you going to sit here and defend Paterno's actions?? I'm not saying that McQueary and many other's aren't guilty also. If you want to know what I think he should have done, what I would have done. I would have seriously questioned McQueary to ensure he saw what he saw. I would have reminded him that it will get tough for him but if what he said is true, he needs to go to the police now and that I will go with him and support him. If McQueary told him he wouldn't go to the police, then I would let him know that I (Paterno) was going to go to the police and relay what McQueary told me (Paterno). Then let the police interview McQueary and if he wanted to lie to the police, then there's nothing I could do legally.
However, lets keep in mind this was not the first "incident" that Paterno was aware of. There was the incident in 1998 and where there's smoke, there's fire. If the Police could not do anything, I as Joepa would have ensured that Sandusky was kicked off campus and could not use the facilities for his "boys" club.
Did Joepa do any of this? Do you really think he did all in his power to ensure that a rapist was prevented from raping other 10 year old boys? You go on and keep defending Joepa and you're as sick as those kids out there rallying in front of Joepa's house yesterday. Two things we're pretty sure of. Either a lot of people are lying about a very serious charge, or Jerry Sandusky is a child rapist. The other thing we know is that Joepa did the bare minimum to see that justice was done. If you're okay with that and want to defend him, have at it.

Okay - I finally found Joe Paterno's analogous partner in "We didn't commit no
legal crime" -

Here is what the OCR is reporting.
1998: The investigation into retired Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky begins in 2008 with the first child sex allegations reported to law enforcement. Campus police and the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare investigate an incident in which the mother of an 11-year-old boy reports that Sandusky has showered with her son. In an interview with authorities in June 1998, Sandusky admits showering naked with the boy. He admits that it was wrong and promises not to do it again, according to the grand jury report. No charges will be filed and the university police chief instructs that the case be closed.
