President Barack Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy were caught on a live microphone criticizing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu while at the G-20 meeting last week.
According to a report in a French newspaper picked up by the Israeli press, Sarkozy told Obama: "I cannot stand [Netanyahu]. He is a liar."
Obama is said to have replied: "You're fed up with him, but I have to deal with him every day!"
The report is hardly surprising as neither world leader has a particularly good relationship with Netanyahu.
Obama has faced criticism domestically for not being a strong enough supporter of Israel — a factor in the Democrats' loss of the New York 9th Congressional district earlier this year. The exchange is likely to resurrect charges that Obama is soft on Israel less than a year before his reelection.
POLITICO's Ben Smith got in touch with Le Monde reporter Arnaud Leparmentier, who was sourced as the person who overheard the conversation. He told Smith that he did not overhear the conversation, but rather got it from a "source."
The White House has yet to comment on the report.

His standing in global diplomacy is now and forever compromised!! THIS is what the public schools in America are producing in the way of ‘leadership’ character. If “O” ever had more than a cursory or minimally functional understanding of American diplomatic tradition or of the history of diplomacy at all, he would STFU and begin demonstrating some character and discernment.... always!!

Because Netanyahu is 100 times the man either one of those little pissants will be. I expected this BS from the POS Obama. I'm a little disappointed to hear it from Sarkozy.

When did this happen; seems I read this quite some time ago. Not in MSM; but per 'online' reporting.
I think they dep sixed the audio as I was listening to the Glenn Beck news( GBTV) today all thirty of the journalists took( toke??) a unanimous vote and deided not to air this as Herman Cain was top of the non-news and more impotant(sp?).
Without looking it up, the first press conference of the G20, I think last Friday.
My understanding is that, in France, the press considers this a private conversation, thus non reportable. Bubba is only hoping to come back as a frog in his next life. Look at Sarkozy’s significant other, heck, look at Berlusconis, look at Hillary.
