VIDEO: MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell, Politico’s Jonathan Martin snicker at journalism’s ‘code of ethics’

The Society of Professional Journalism’s code of ethics is apparently unknown to, and easily dismissed by, MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell. On “Andrea Mitchell Reports” Monday, the anchor introduced Politico’s Jonathan Martin after playing a clip of former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain suggesting some reporters at an event in Texas check the Society of Professional Journalism’s “code of ethics.”

“Jonathan Martin is the senior reporter for Politico and broke the original story,” she said. “I assume you read the journalistic code of ethics, whatever that is.”

Martin replied by saying he had his copy “well-thumbed.”

Well, before Herman Cain mentioned it on National Television and the alphabets advertised it on News Shows ... most people had not even known that there WAS a Journalistic Code of Ethics ... NOW THEY DO.

Thank You Herman Cain for educating the 99% who need it.

How many of YOU knew about the Journalistic Code of Ethics? It's even ON LINE: http://www.spj.org/ethicscode.asp

Seek Truth and Report It
Journalists should be honest, fair and courageous in gathering, reporting and interpreting information.

Journalists should:

— Test the accuracy of information from all sources and exercise care to avoid inadvertent error. Deliberate distortion is never permissible.
...
— Distinguish between advocacy and news reporting. Analysis and commentary should be labeled and not misrepresent fact or context.
— Distinguish news from advertising and shun hybrids that blur the lines between the two.
— Recognize a special obligation to ensure that the public's business is conducted in the open and that government records are open to inspection.

This HIGHLIGHTS the use of Alinsky Rules of Radicals tactics by the Media!

Andrea Mitchell seems to be ignorant of ethics, since she professed to not know about the Journalistic Code of Ethics (”whatever that is.”)

"Check out Andrea’s profile photo."

Can't. I'd rather hit my thumb with a hammer.

May I ask when or where either Andrea Mitchell or Jonathan Martin ever claimed to be journalists? To suggest they violated a code of ethics that does not apply to their vocation is as apropos as suggesting Herman Cain is guilty of sexual harassment.

Andrea (aka the “Palin Stalker”) got her B.A. in English literature and moved straight in to being a talking head on radio and TV. Ain’t no “Journalism” edumacation in her background.

Must have been written before the internet emerged.
