What happens to a U.S. President when he aligns himself with civil unrest? Barack Obamas pledge to the occupy protesters that he is on their side is to use the Presidents word of choice to describe himself unprecedented. Where this association takes him and his fellow Democrats will be very interesting to watch.
American history is replete with corruption and legally questionable behavior at the White House, much of which pre-dates those of us who are alive today. President Andrew Jackson, for example, was caught transferring taxpayer money out of federal coffers and investing it into private banks that were owned by his campaign donors.
President James Buchanan was known to have sold positions in his Administration before he was even elected. Years later after President Buchanan had negotiated an opportunity to buy the island of Cuba, Congress refused to appropriate funds for the purchase because they didnt trust the President to handle the money properly.
Thus, the Obama scandals are not unprecedented. The Presidents selfish waste of American taxpayer dollars to the now-bankrupt MF Global Holdings Corporation with former Governor John Corzine, the now-bankrupt Solyndra green energy Corporation, and former Vice President Al Gores Finland-base electric car company, fit right in with the corrupt behavior of many of our past Presidents who controlled to much of our public assets.
What is different about President Barack Obama is his proactive effort to publicly and intentionally align himself with a scandal that, so far as we can tell, has emerged from outside of the White House. And the occupy movement is indeed scandalous in as much as it is antithetical to our Constitutional system of governance, and our free market economic system.
Ask any occupy protesters you meet, and youll likely hear the usual talking points: Were the 99% and we need to let our voices be heard; The government only represents the top 1% and ignores the rest of us. The rhetoric is designed to create a sense of victimization, and to a certain point, it is effective.
But then ask your local occupy protester some very basic questions about our representative government and youll likely find that the discussion falls apart. Simple questions, like who has been elected to represent you in your state legislature?, or Who is the Mayor of your city?, or Who are your U.S. Senators? will likely take the conversation over a cliff. And if naming their elected officials isnt sufficiently challenging, try asking your occupy protester How does legislation get created?, and then prepare for a very dismissive, if not angry response.
The point here is that the occupy protesters can scarcely tell you anything about the design and functioning of our American representative governmental system, yet they are nonetheless quite sure that it has failed. And whether they realize it or not, they are pushing for something on the order of a direct democracy, a system of government that the world mostly rejected several centuries ago in favor of representational government.
The lessons of history dont matter to the occupy protesters. And their lessons in basic American civics if indeed they ever learned basic American civics dont matter either. They want what they want, whether it fits with the U.S. Constitution or not.
Thus we have a movement that has brought about costly damages to both private and public property an estimated $19,000 worth of damage in Portland, $35,000 in New York, and $25,000 in Oakland and multiple instances of sexual assault, public urinating and defecating, and allegations of rape. And its all for the cause of what? abandoning our Constitutional form of government?
Indeed, it is unprecedented for a U.S. President to align himself with this type of anti-constitutional movement. How much longer will America remain aligned with him?
What a great article! Bump!
anti-constitutional = The ones on the left,expected
I dont agree with Rudy Giuliani too often, but I heard him say recently that Obama “owns” the Occupy movement. He created it with his class warfare. I hope the idiots who run the RNC take this idea and create all kinds of ads linking Hussein Obama with the pot smoking, semi-coherent rabble that have spent the last month or so defecating on police cars and living in their own filth. These are Obama’s core constituents. They are NOT winning the hearts and minds of the middle class and swing voters. We need to tie them around the Muslim Marxist’s neck like a stone from now until election day.
Does anyone else see a problem with a President who encourages mob violence, or is it just me?
obamaville bump
Terrorism, Obama style.
President One Term and the Malodorous Mob want you to be a-scared of what they will do if they don’t get their way.
And the re-election of Idi Uh-bama is first and foremost in the minds of 99% of the 99%ers.
This false charge by the proponents of Central Banking is an intentional historical misreading of Presidents Jackson’s successful effort to maintain America’s financial independence. A private banking system maintained our independence to a great degree for about a hundred years.
“President Andrew Jackson, for example, was caught transferring taxpayer money out of federal coffers and investing it into private banks that were owned by his campaign donors.”
Total dis-information of the purpose, and reality of the Jackson-Biddle feud.
The President supports the protesters, like the one that walked into a McDonald’s and demanded free food and when he was refused, threw a tantrum.
Kind of sums up the whole mess, doesn’t it?
Steyn is right: the fabric of our society is unraveling and Western Civilization is singing its swan song.
My predictions:
1. Impose 80,000 pages of regulations on business so they can’t expand or hire. DONE
2. Get the people that are out of work to protest and/or riot. DONE
3. Have the police put pressure on the demonstrators and try and break them up and make them madder. DONE
4. When the police can’t handle the problem, call out the National Guard. YET TO BE DONE
5. When the National Guard can’t handle the problem, impose Marshal Law. YET TO BE DONE
6. When Marshal Law is imposed, the people lose all their rights as long as it is enforced. YET TO BE DONE
In my opinion, this is where we are heading under our great leader. It won’t be by accident either, unless he is shut down.
Time to get off the dock and onto the Ark Christ Jesus, because when the smoke clears, He (and those in Him) will be the only One left standing.
I really think someone should be video taping all of the violence at these Occupy cities and then attaching at the end, BO supporting this group. What do you think every day Americans will say to that commercial spot?
I agree w/ Rudy too. I suspect that OWS would not have happened absent Obama’s class warfare rhetoric. It really is the natural response to his demagoguery.
>How much longer will America remain aligned with him?<
.
A large segment of the American public will continue to support Hussein come what may.
Among them are the large majority of muslims, 95% of blacks and all those with a grudge against their own country.
That is fascinating. I’m sure the Biddles thought that they could handle international financial relations between Central Banks in Europe and one set up in this country, bank-to-bank, to the mutual benefit of the people of the United States and the Biddles themselves.
Jefferson and Jackson just thought that idea was hubristic and would eventually lead to our ruin and loss of sovereignty. Just a little disagreement among friends. Glad to hear the Biddle descendents were determined to serve the interests of their country as they saw it as Jacksons.
Most Americans young enough to participate in something as absurd as “OCCUPY WALL STREET” have grown up NOT being taught the true history of the United States of America if they have indeed been taught any history at all and they have always been told that “Democracy” is the only good form of government and is the form of government that the United States is built on. Try to tell them that the constitution guarantees a Republican form of government and the founding fathers had no desire for a “Democracy” and they think you are nuts. They will never realize that they are ignorant, how could they, they have been taught untruths and told that they are brilliant because they have learned these untruths.
Trying to talk to most of these people will prove as productive as talking to a lamppost.
