An explosive sex abuse scandal and possible cover-up rocked Happy Valley after former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, once considered Joe Paterno's heir apparent, was charged with sexually assaulting eight boys over a 15-year period. Among the allegations was that a graduate assistant saw Sandusky assault a boy in the shower at the Nittany Lions' practice center in 2002.
Sandusky retired in 1999 but continued to use the school's facilities for his work with The Second Mile, a foundation he established to help at-risk kids. The state grand jury investigation also resulted in perjury charges against Tim Curley, Penn State's athletic director, and Gary Schultz, vice president for finance and business. The two administrators were accused of failing to alert police as required by state law of their investigation of the allegations.
"This is a case about a sexual predator who used his position within the university and community to repeatedly prey on young boys," state Attorney General Linda Kelly said Saturday in a statement.
Paterno, who last week became the winningest coach in Division I football, wasn't charged, and the grand jury report didn't appear to implicate him in wrongdoing.

I give him some slack as I mentioned in reference to the 'culture' at PSU was to blame for his actions. NO WAY do you call 911 on one of the PSU ICONS.
McQueary is a very large intimidating person.
I can’t imagine why he would fail to physically intervene. He could have kicked the guys butt easily.
sigh.....
I just finished reading the presentment.
The grad assistant allowed that boy to remain with his rapist that night.
Of course, the GA would have known the rapist - and that has to enter into his degree of shock.
Nethertheless....the child remained with the rapist, and it is fair to assume, was taken from the site of the crime by the rapist and returned to his home.
That right there is extremely bad judgement.
Yes - he reported it, but not in the way you would hope most reasonable people - people who would be concerned for the welfare of a child/victim - would report it.
“(although he may have downplayed the allegations; it’s unclear whether the graduate assistant told Paterno about the anal rape, but Paterno did not make such serious charges when discussing it with Curley).”
That’s the key isn’t it?
I’m finding it extremely difficult to believe that the GA did not accurately describe to JoePa exactly what he saw.
Joe knowing and the police having evidence are two different things.
The grand jury report indicates that Sandusky was involved with little boys as long ago as 1994, when he was still the defensive coordinator at PSU.

He’s not one of the good guys; and has never been one of the good guys.
They ought to do to PSU football what they did to ancient Carthage; tear it down, brick by brick, and then sprinkle salt on the ground.
Look at how high the cover-up went. All the way up to President Spanier. Sandusky was a hero at PSU. The grad-student probably saw his future going down the drain. As it came to be, everyone covered up, they gave the grad-assistant an assistant coaching position and Sandusky was free to rape again and again and again and ....
