Will Newt Gingrich Win the Republican Nomination?
American Thinker ^ | November 5, 2011 | Selwyn Duke

Posted on 11/05/2011 3:34:06 PM PDT by Paladins Prayer

If slow and steady really does win the race, Newt Gingrich could well end up being the Republican nominee for president.

Thus far, this campaign season has been defined by flash-in-the-pan fortunes. Michele Bachmann was first out of the blocks and won the Iowa straw poll, but this seemed much like a house of straw when Texas governor Rick Perry entered the fray and became her Big Bad Wolf. But then he blew his own house down with a series of disastrous debate performances, allowing the Cain Train to pull into the station. This brings us to where we are now, with Herman Cain holding on to a slim lead over Mitt Romney --- with a lot of voters still undecided. And should the bold businessman's stock crash, where will a plurality of his support go?

The answer may surprise you. If polling is any indication, it's not Tea Party caucus chairman Michele Bachmann or staunch states-rights standard bearer Rick Perry.

It's Newt Gingrich.

Like him or not, I would pay money for tickets to see him debate Obama or Biden. He would cream either.

Me too. These are the candidates we have to choose from and I’ll take any of the top contenders over the guy currently in the white house. None of them are my top choice, but my top choice isn’t running.

I see that you are spamming every Newt thread with multiple copies of your canned message.

Smart doesn’t mean right. Some extremely smart people have brought our country to the edge of the cliff. What we need are smart voters with long memories! No more career politicians in Washington D.C.! Yes, term limits for Congress! No more lifetime pensions! Less deception and more common sense! Go Herman Cain!

I cannot help remember all the GOP bots told us the same thing in 2008 about McCain. They all could not wait for “the war hero to take on the kid in the debate”.

Merely being a good talker like Newt does not make one a good choice for President.

If it gives you pause when someone on this forum calls a candidate a Rino, you could likely go into perpetual suspended animation. ☺

I don’t remember anyone saying that at all. Most of us voted because Sarah Palin was on the ticket.....AND because we did NOT want Obama. We KNEW what McCain was like.

Newt is coming on strong. If only he weren't a neocon.

With three wives and a history of ethics violations.

Agreed re: Newt and amnesty.

Unfortunately all of the candidates have said they would find such a “path” for most of the illegals here.

Newt’s a problem, but none of the candidates is a solution on the issue.

I noticed the same thing about that guy. Guess Newt won’t be expecting his vote. I’m betting a lot of people voted Obama on this board. 95% of ALL blacks voted Obama...

I like both Cain and Gingrich and don’t wish to demean either of them. Angry people lose no matter if they win.

Coming on strong, eh?

Sure, why not. Let’s run another fuddy-duddy, over-the-hill, silver haired, DC insider, reach-across-the-aisle Republican for president, against the Boy King.

Surely that’ll work the second time around...

Newt Gingrich is a patriot. He has conducted himself with dignity, urgency and clarity in this campaign. He is not a perfect man, and being such a public person, his imperfections, personal and professional, are magnified in large part due to the liberal press who hate him for the tremendous success he had in the 90’s.

Without Gingrich, there would not have been the Republican revolution of ‘94, there would not have been the balanced budget law of ‘96, there would not have been the Welfare Reform in ‘96, and I dare say, the business environment that resulted in big stock market growth in those years.

Bill Clinton was a man with no imagination for anything but keeping himself in power and chasing women. Gingrich set the conservative agenda in our country and dragged Clinton along with him. Clinton’s ‘triangulation’ strategy was nothing more than a survival game, pulling the country back from the left wing wildness that he and his donkey minions in Congress tried to destroy us with his first 2 years in power. Triangulation was ultimately Billy’s recognition that Newt was right, and that the only way for him to save himself. The media gave Clinton all the credit and never stopped hating Newt for it. They destroyed Newt with a phony scandal in ‘98. Rather than drag us through more trouble, Newt apologized in front of the whole country and kept the Republicans in charge. His weak successors ultimately failed us.

The more we see of this field, in my view it is not even close who is the most qualified, prepared and proven leader who can lead us out of the disaster we are in. I am tired of rehashing his imperfections. I believe Newt Gingrich loves America and has the most critical capabilities we need and I am now supporting him.

Newt does not in any way thrill me, but (unlike Romney) he has my vote if he gets the nomination. He’s a sleaze and an insider, but he will lead in whatever direction the Congress wants to be led, just to look like he’s in front. That’s better than Romney who will stroll down the path to socialism or Obama who will race to the socialist finish line (where America is finished). I’m okay with electing Newt, but it’s phenomenally important to send him with a conservative Congress.
