Republican 2012 presidential candidates Republican 2012 presidential candidates Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich met in a Lincoln-Douglas style debate on current economic and social issues facing the U.S.
Those folks voted against Obama last time.
I know some of them.
I also thought (and, to be honest, always have) that Newt still had a little too much of the “old way” in him. After all, that IS his experience in government and it wasn’t instinctual for him, at first, to grasp what the Tea Party was all about.
I’d take either of these men at the top of the ticket, but I’m thinking Gingrich would be best as VP. He has so much to offer a new administration and the nation, but it would be better for him to work for someone who truly is coming at this with bold, new, fresh “eyes.”
Perry I believe WOULD be great in this format, if whoever he “opposed” was as civil as these two were with each other. I wouldn’t expect that though.
I did like that neither candidate was trying to do a “gotcha” attack against the other, like happens too often in the 8-person 30-second soundbite fest mislabeled “debates”.
Well, it turns out Rep. King was annoying as hell, too.
Just blabbering legislate-ese when none of that was the point tonight.
I’m really proud of our guys!
I’d like to see a two-on-two debate, where Cain and Gingrich debate Obama and Biden at the same time.
Cain and Gingrich would make each other look even smarter than they are, while just the visual of Obama and Biden sitting on their side of the table together — two complete losers.
AP was wrong. Does that surprise you? Or do you really think more candidates would be invited to a one-on-one debate format? Does that actually make sense to you?
Right on the button. Newt was the obvious adult of the two.
Wow, excellent news!
Gingrich and Cain have decided they want to be a team one way or another.
Another fantastic thing about this debate: it was put on completely by the people! The media had NOTHING to do with it!
Bingo!
Yes and if there is a tie vote the VP gets to vote the tie breaker. That is what Al Gore did so that Social Security recipients got part of their SS taxed
Statistically...no they did not. This time.. yes they will.
I agree.
Cain is inspirational and that’s very needed at this point. Obama could not hold a candle to him.
Have you seen the vid of Cain taking on President Clinton?
Hope Barry has.
Yeah. Newt was spectacular.... his applause from the audience was probably 5X what Cain got. I like Cain, but he is VP material at best. He clearly was thrown off by some of the questions, and some answers were lacking any real depth. I’m guessing Herman walks out of there and thinks: “Whew... I did it.”, Whereas Newt didn’t even break a sweat.
I’d be very happy with a Newt/Cain ticket, but not vice-versa. The reality is Cain would not have the ability to challenge Obama to the 7 Lincoln-Douglas debates. Cain would just do the 3 lame media run events and probably lose, or break even at best. Newt, other the other hand, VOWS to do it. .....and if Obama doesn’t accept, he said that the White House will set his campaign schedule. Everywhere Obama goes, Newt will be there 4 hours later to rip apart his speech, and hound him into accepting the real debates. THAT will make for some serious entertainment.
Either way.... good debate tonight. Go NEWT!!!!
Who cares?
No one watches them anyway.
Don’t sweat it. Carry on, be of good cheer!
Here we go.
Once again a candidate thread sidetracked and destroyed by rabid Perry supporters. I tell ya’ Windy, this soooo reminds me of the PDS wars. The difference is that there, the PDSers flocked to the Palin threads to expunge their bowels. Perry fanatics sem to be broad ranging and will verbally crap on threads of all types to met out their insanity.
Perry supporter logic “Newt/Cain debate thread? Hell, lets shill for a candidate not even involved and trash the two actual participants!”
Eventually the supporters of Cain/Newt/Santorum/Bachmann heck even Paul are going to have to band together and deal with these trolls. Yes trolls. They meet the textbook definition of internet troll in every capacity. They add nothing to the debate, lie non-stop about their candidate and opponents alike, make toothless threats (that’s you Altrua) and take the level of discourse to that of a DU Bush thread and act like spoiled children in mid-tantrum when anyone questions the supremacy of Rick Perry.
And don’t get me started on mylife and her merry band of “fence gonna BBQ children” apologists for illegal aliens. With the so-called “conservative asendency” that Perry supporters claim (yea, right) there is a massive increase in apologists for illegal aliens on FR and they are swamping threads with why we ‘can’t’ build a fence, ‘can’t’ offend the ‘hispanic’ community for their votes and ‘can’t’ do anything that would actually get the problem solved.
Am I alone in being sick to the hilt of these anti-American attitudes on a site built for God and COUNTRY????
The actual conservatives here on FR really need to take a stand on this sympathetic/RINO/Lib BS. NOW.
YES.
Because Chile followed Milton Friedman's advice. It is well known and Milton Friedman took a lot of undeserved grief over his relationship with Chile.
