Andy Rooney, Mainstay on ‘60 Minutes’, Dead at 92

Andy Rooney, whose prickly wit was long a mainstay of CBS News and whose homespun commentary on “60 Minutes,” delivered every week from 1978 until 2011, made him a household name, died Friday in New York City.

He was 92 and lived in Manhattan, though he kept a family vacation home in Rensselaerville, N.Y., and the first home he ever purchased, in Rowayton, Conn.

CBS News said in a statement that Mr. Rooney died after complications following minor surgery.

In late September, CBS announced that Mr. Rooney would be making his last regular weekly appearance on “60 Minutes” on Oct. 2. After that, said Jeff Fager, the chairman of CBS News and the program’s executive producer, he would “always have the ability to speak his mind on ‘60 Minutes’ when the urge hits him.”

He served in WWII. If it weren’t for that, I wouldn’t have anything good to say about the man.

Alot of people have known that Andy Rooney has been UNDEAD for quite a while:

Seriously though, his service in WWII requires reflection, but the other 3/4 of his life was insipid and juvenile, using his communistic atheism to belittle those of faith.

Like Walter Concrite, another commie atheist gone, and America is better for it. I will pray that he had a death bed conversion to Christ, and for his family. I for one, will not miss him.

If you've got the time, go to youtube and search for “Andy Rooney World War 2”. Sure, Rooney was less than perfect, but he was remarkable nonetheless.

I stopped listening to him years ago, but when I had heard him on 60 Minutes back in the day, he was occasionally witty. His service in WWII is a real plus.

And one more thing: he was a lifelong ardent NY Football Giants fan and season ticket holder, and would go to every home game he could. He sat in the seats with the rest of us and not in the sky boxes.

RIP, Andy.

From a 30 year old- good riddance....

To someone my age and our expose to him, he was just some crazy old spoiled liberal socialist like the rest of them thinking he was clever spouting his marxist crap.

Given fame for why? Because he is liberal!

Happy Trails you mean, old SOB.

That's the way you would have wanted to be remembered.

Three homes. Wow, sounds like a 1% greedy rich guy. Regarding WWII, while my father was flying B17s out of Italy, this guy was writing about it. RIP to him, but I plan to grow tired of the lionizing of this guy real soon.

Rooney said that George Paton was “the most over-rated general of WW II.” You shouldn’t speak ill of the dead, but since ole Andy did, can I too?
