Occupy arrestee Kayvan Sabehgi badly hurt (armed forces veteran)

OAKLAND -- An armed forces veteran was in the intensive care unit of Highland Hospital after suffering serious injuries that he said were caused by a confrontation with police during this week's Occupy Oakland protests.

Kayvan Sabehgi was among the 103 people arrested early Thursday after a day of peaceful protests turned violent. He was arrested for remaining at the scene of a riot and resisting arrest, police said.

Sabehgi told members of Iraq Veterans Against the War that he was beaten by police with nightsticks on his hands, shoulders, ribs and back. He suffered internal injuries, including a lacerated spleen, he told the group.

Oakland police are investigating the allegations, said spokeswoman Johnna Watson.

When I was out of the military and in school, some professor said, you are ex military what do you think about what happened at kent state. My answer, do not throw rock at a man with a gun. He never ask me another question.

A quick search shows little but the almost identical information about this guy. No other details, just three identifiers, that he was in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Veterans Against the War.

Saying someone is a veteran is meaningless unless they are identified by branch, and possibly unit. Rank is a big plus as well.

Anyone find it odd that the ONLY (supposedly) seriously injured Occuoy protestors/rioters are “veterans?” Something is hinky.

Infantry E-5 in 2007. Further information is that Sabeghi is a Shiite-Persian name found in both Iran and the UAE. Kevyan or Kavyan is a popular Persian boy’s name.
