To my knowledge, Sinclair never brought a legal action but made these charges in a book or an article. If it hadn’t been for the legal actions/employment grievances filed by the complainants in the Cain cases, I doubt that Politico would have published anything.

For better or for worse, a reporter generally won’t just publish somebody’s claims (although I’m sure the ones about Obama were true), but there has to be a paper trail. In Cain’s case, there is.

And it’s true that anything about a Republican is going to be magnified, but that’s just how it goes and all GOP candidates should be prepared for this.
