The harassment scandal highlights Cain's rift with Iowa's most dangerous conservative talker.
Herman Cain has messed with the wrong Iowan.
One strand of the multifaceted scandal unfolding around the Republican presidential candidate this week has been the charge that Cain treated female staffers of Des Moines-based radio host Steve Deace in a manner Deace found "awkward and inappropriate."
While Deace has refused to describe the interaction that prompted that characterization, he has also spent the week relentlessly pounding Cain on his nightly talk show -- and taking to task the conservatives who, at least at first, largely defended the former Godfather's Pizza CEO.
Deace says his major objections to Cain predated the scandal and are based on matters of substance. But there's no question that, for whatever reason, Cain has become the top target of Deace's fierce -- some would say demagogic -- ire.
And that could be a big problem for Cain. Because Deace isn't just any radio talker -- he can plausibly claim to be one of the most influential right-wing figures in the Hawkeye State. Four years ago, he played an instrumental role in Mitt Romney's loss, and Mike Huckabee's win, in the Iowa caucuses.
Now, Deace has his sights trained on Cain.

Methinks this man has an agenda that goes far beyond the normal scope of any evangelical Christian -- even a talk show host. The media we know is firmly in the pocket of Satan, The Father of Lies. It looks like this guy is proving the point.
I remember something a really GREAT talk show host, Barry Farber has said in the past, “An insult cannot be given, it can only be taken.” Don’t know who this Deace guy is but it seems to me that he’s only trying to get publicity for his show.
Okay, so its almost 2 here in Texas. Has anyone heard from the NRA regarding the statment or are we having to wait again. Anyone? anyone?
Cain said, Darling, do you mind doctoring my tea for me? Deace said.
Deace is certifiable if he judges this to be harassment.
Cain's rising poll numbers in the state would certainly support that.
That dude voted for Obama in 2008.
I would tell Steve Deace a man complimenting a woman is to be expected
It makes me sick to see women so man hating! I had a boss who was 24 (same age as my son). The office consisted of 18 women and him. Needless to say he had many a chance for harassment charges just for small jokes in the office. I believe these women are either derranged or seeking money and fame and any small jesture could set them off. Women like that make me sick. Who are they to think they are all that.
A powerful enemy in Iowa? BHAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAA!
Myabe the good people of Iowa need to delegitimize this guy and take away some of influence - especially if he is TOO stupid to understand what is really going on... btw, on the second day of this, Bachmann attacked Cain, and on the third day said she was staying above the fray and wouldn’t comment... we will remember, michelle. Count on it.
Conveniently like every other element of this "scandal." At least Anita Hill had the gumption to lay out specifics.
He actually seems to be one of those holier-than-thou types...
To pick through this story from the The Atlantic, we go to your comment where we click on the highlighted link to a story which takes us to the Politico story and in it we find a reference to an AP sourced report included. Selective pickers will not want to do all that. It is entirely too much trouble for the tunnel visioned to escort their brain through the unfolding of a story about who said what, and when. I will do it. I won’t however make hand notes as to where I research sources. Others need to do their own dang homework.
Thank you for the source work you have done, and point to in your lead comment to this thread. It explains to those who did not know all this, where to go. This will be extremely helpful to Lonevoice and Politcalmom who berate me for not remembering my sources for my comments. YOU have provided those sources today. Thank you.
Thanks for the link.
It’s a southernism. It would be advisable (if true) for Cain not to say it, but hardly worthy of a (gasp!!!!) complaint.
I, like others, am interested in what those in Deace’s radio-range have to say; I’ve never heard of him.
I was the receptionist at my husband's office. I offered cream and sugar for our clients.
I always considered it to be a professional courtesy.
When I was in college (30 years ago) my mother warned me not to be associated with NOW women. She said they don't shave their legs or underarms, and if I joined the organization Mom warned me that she'd yank me out of college.
I was raised the RIGHT waY.
Hmmmmm...
This guy was a major force in Huckabee’s win in 2008?
Is it possible this fellow might be feeling irrelevant this time around?
She’s her OWN main obstacle.
Wow, that is some weak tea indeed, this guy looks like he is just trying to find any reason to thump the tub against Herman Cain.
Though I suspect Cain will do just fine in Iowa.
Deace is a candidate for the leader of USA~Taliban
