Too many people think that just being liberal is a marketable skill. And why not? 13 years of public school and 6 years of college tell them that. Then harsh reality hits the semester before graduation and employers tell them "sorry, thanks for applying", IF they do a call-back at all. It's Starbucks and the parent's basement for them (and mom & dad are typically less accommodating the 2nd time around).

Anyone who would borrow $35,000 to study freakin’ puppets is an idiot and will never be of any value to society as anything other than an organ donor.

Besides, how long can you study a puppet? This string is the right arm, etc. 20 minutes ought to cover it.

Well put. Once upon a time, you knew that if you wanted to be an artist, you'd probably spend most of your life working other jobs in order to keep on painting, say, or painting portraits of boring people or doing other artistic grunt work just to stay in the field. And you had very little chance of ever getting popular enough to really strike it rich - and even that happened only after long years of near poverty. But now people feel that society owes them a comfortable living so that they can "follow their bliss," as that weird saying goes. Unfortunately, the money has run out - sorry, kids, you've got to pay for your own bliss.

There are literally hundreds of thousands of engineering and tech jobs, almost all of them paying over $50,000 a year to start, going unfilled all over the country or being filled by young Indians and even Arabs brought here on visas. That's because our colleges produce only a tiny handful of native born engineering or science grads every year, mostly because the kids are so underprepared in lower school that they don't even consider going into those majors. But maybe that's because they had puppetry in school instead of math.

This article reminds me of a Fidel Castro speech. On and on and on it goes, where it stops nobody knows.
As for Master Therrien, my guess is that his folks must be footing bill. A 27 year old goes off to puppet school and expects to get his old job back? Such a sad waste of time.

With the OWS types, half of them think that they’re going to take the George Stephanopolous route: get a poly-sci degree while interning with the DNC, go work for a president for a few years, then pick up a network anchor spot and make $11 million/year reading a teleprompter. They don’t realize that that only happens for kids whose families are as rich AND connected as Kennedys and Vanderbilts. The rank-and-file liberals are as worthless as $3 bills in that world.

The other half are in school just to ride the gravy train and avoid reality. 6 years of sponging off the parents and the system, and job-avoidance. Who cares about the future? It’s all about drinking beer, getting laid, and hanging out with the enlightened. 6 years is forever and will never come. Then it comes fast and they’ve got exactly zero prospects. Nothing but a mountain of debt and a job as a restaurant server. Can’t even make decent money in construction, the recession has killed that industry and the cash under-the-table Mexicans have sucked up all those jobs anyway.

This guy proves that they are complete morons. They are incapable of admitting that they made bad choices. Thirty five thousand to become a puppeteer?

I could read no more shortly after I figured out the word ‘dufus’ wasn’t going to follow the words ‘puppetry’ and ‘$35,000’.

No joke. My 4 year old daughter does it with about 3 minutes of training. I would’ve charged the guy $20,000. What a bargain! For another $15,000, I’ll also show you how to change your oil or change out your toilet or change out your bathroom sink. I never realized until this article that I could be so enterprising to the stupid.

How would that degree read?......exactly?....

MoP? (Master of Puppets?....wasn’t that a Metallica album)

Master of Foolish and Completely Worthless Arts?

I think they have a grant from Muppet U that would have saved him about 10 grand.

Jackwagon.

This is the same guy who wondered “why do they hate us” after 9/11.

Yep, I’m an engineer and (super-duper gasp! to liberals) it didn’t happen overnight. I did 6 years in the military and worked MANY crappy jobs through college to make that happen. I didn’t get an engineering job until I was 31. My biggest motivator for getting through school was telling myself, “If you don’t finish school, this is your life right here,” while working at the construction road crew, cutting plastic parts, cheese factory, and other jobs I did in college.

I wouldn’t have it any other day, the experience was a lot more rich than if I’d hit college at 18 with mommy & daddy paying for it all. And I probably would’ve gotten drunk and failed out in a big way anyway.

No joke, the first paragraph really says it all. I skimmed the article after that and stopped completely after the 2nd page-down. This article just wanders with the wind.

Her day-to-day work life is defined by the principles of horizontalism, autonomy and collectivism.

WTF does that mean ... in English? After reading about these self absorbed morons, I don't know if I need a couple of aspirin or a good stiff drink!

Being a puppeteer takes both verbal and physical dexterity. It is a trade that does not pay all that well. Someone I knew supplemented her income as being a psychic on the Psychic Hot Line, and that was at least 10 years ago when people were having entertainers at children's parties.

You’re putting the cart before the horse; American students turned their back on tech jobs (and the schooling) when it became obvious that Asians were being imported to suppress wages regardless of the size of the native talent pool. That is still done today; many American tech workers are unemployed, due to a fabricated shortage used to bring in Asia’s white-collar “wetbacks”. Once tech companies threatend to go to Vancouver or Asia itself, the government folded and opened the floodgates.
