The day after playing in a Minneapolis concert, Cory Smoot - also known as Flattus Maximus, the guitarist for metal band GWAR - was found dead on the band's tour bus Thursday.

GWAR frontman Dave Brockie released a statement Thursday to Brooklyn, N.Y.-based MetalSucks, an online site featuring posts on heavy metal music.

"Cory was found deceased this morning as the band prepared for a border crossing. There is no word as to the cause of death and the members of GWAR are completely shocked and devastated that this has occurred. At this point there is no word on arrangements and the disposition of the remainder of GWAR's current North American tour, nor are there any details regarding long term plans," Brockie said, adding that a full statement would be released in "the next day or so."

The band played at First Avenue on Wednesday. They were crossing into Canada on Thursday and were due to perform Friday evening in Edmonton, Alberta.

Bass players,
sometimes you gotta have em.

LOL amen to that.

But if I can figure a way to get that nice broad spectral range and driving beat without one, there is a certain someone I know who is gonna be doing his posing and late-showing-up-if-at-all-and-then-maybe-if-we’re-lucky-sober routine back in the basement.

And don’t get me started on drummers. I’m convinced people play drums to mask the voices in their head.

They aren’t very popular in the US so I gotta always bring them up every chance I get. They are working on a new studio album now due to release early next year.

In the mean time, check out MaYaN. Members of Epica, Kamelot and Sons of Seasons got together mid-tour to put together a pretty awesome band.

Thanks mnehring! I’m all about new music. Had Sevendust’s latest on constant rotation lately, but now Lajon has to share time with Simone!

Not all books can be judged by their cover.

as far as GWAR is concerned, they were very tongue in cheek

Totally. I saw an interview with them some time ago. The interviewer mentioned how astonished he was that they were nice, clean-cut young men (and a woman, if I remember right).

The lead singer said, approximately, "What, do you think we sleep in our stage gear? It's an ACT, dumba$$!"

Never been to one of their shows. Struck me as a spectacle to be seen, albeit from a distance.

Thank you

That was really cool. I’d never seen Apocalyptica before.

“Actually, it was....and I offer Keith Richards as my evidence.”

Actually, you’re wrong. Only God knows why Keith Richards is still alive after all the drugs and booze. The guy had his Senior Discount Card at McDonalds in 1985.

A real mystery.

“Oops just realized you are a drummer.”

Yea, I can’t decide on whether to use my 5 piece TriAxis
or my 3 piece Marshall. I guess I could use my Fender Twin
trap set. Just got a new Ibanez Premium high hat to go with
my old Gibson LesPaul and Fender strat mounted roto toms.
Do they even make roto toms any more?
