I think the article had some good points. As you say, probably the secret of Texas’ success is that there isn’t a lot of government churning away day and night to produce new rules, new taxes, etc.

One of the problems for Perry’s use of Texas as a model, however, is that most people in Texas already agree with that philosophy of governing, and they also share a lot of values that may not be that common in the rest of the US (self-reliance, a work ethic, etc.).

I have always thought that the reason Perry hasn’t been very successful in presenting his message is that he didn’t realize it would be a hard sell once he got outside of Texas. He seems to have assumed that the rest of the country thought the way Texans did and that he wouldn’t have to explain things from scratch. We’ll see if he’s capable of understanding this and doing a better job of communicating.

Well I think Americans do think this way because it was once part of all part of what being an American was and still is.

I believe there are many Americans all over this country who just need to stir up what's already inside them. Not by speechifying and multiple point recovery plans.

You know motivational speakers motivate for a couple weeks and then you need a new pick me up. We need to stir up the Spirit already put in us from the days of the Pilgrims.

That is a great post.

That is the first thing I thought when he started running for the election.

My thoughts: Governor, we Texans get what you are saying but you are not talking to Texans anymore. Governor, you need to talk to the American People now and most don’t know a thing about Texas.

And many of the arguments by our fellow Republicans when it comes to Perry is because they don’t understand how things are here or our history. Perry supporters have to as you say “explain from scratch” why and how etc...

That was a very good post and point made by you.
