Raising tax rates, or imposing new taxes, is not at all the same thing as increasing revenue.
The very fastest way to raise revenue is to remove the boot at the throat of the US economy, and that could be accomplished practically overnight with shutting down EPA and repealing the badly misnamed “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act”, passed with such enthusiasm only a couple of years ago.
Uncertainty about the future of the US economy would disappear quickly, and nothing would release the pent-up energy like taking away the restraints.

How much will my taxes (oops, revenue contributions) increase just to pay my portion of the Solyndra slush fund? Or any of the EPA handouts of my hard earned money?
