President Obamas re-election campaign has been hammering Mitt Romney from many angles in recent weeks. And now Democrats are beginning a new push against him, this time using the issue of reproductive rights in a bid to raise doubts about Mr. Romney among women.
The Democratic National Committee has scheduled a conference call for Thursday with Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, the party chairwoman, who, according to the committees press release, will slam G.O.P. presidential candidate Mitt Romney for voicing support for such efforts which could endanger womens lives.
The Democratic offensive is built around Mr. Romneys statements on a proposed constitutional amendment in Mississippi, which among other things would effectively make illegal certain types of birth control. Under the measure, known as a personhood amendment, a fertilized human egg would be declared to be a legal person. The amendment, which would essentially deem abortion and some types of birth control as murder, represents perhaps the furthest front in the anti-abortion movement.
In early October, Mike Huckabee on his Fox News show asked Mr. Romney if he would have supported a constitutional amendment that would have established the definition of life at conception?
Absolutely, Mr. Romney said.
In fact, saying life begins at conception, as Mr. Romney did, is not nearly the same as granting an embryo the legal rights and protections of a person. But at a town-hall-style meeting in Sioux City, Iowa, a few weeks later, a woman pressed him on the issue. Referring to Mr. Romneys appearance on Mr. Huckabees show, she asked him why he opposes the use of birth control.
I dont, Mr. Romney said. Im sorry, life begins at conception, birth control prevents conception.

“Yes and no. On one hand, but on the other. It depends. Possibly. Let me say this about that ... who are you again?”
Milton Romney
Oh how the Democrats would love for Romney to be the GOP candidate. They would win either way.

All they have to do is mention his sexism in his chosen religion...
The discrimination against women in Mormonism will be well raised if Willie Mitty was to get the GOP nod...
If the DNC willl just wait a few days, Romney will change his stance.
Notice the bias in the title of the article? Not abortion but “reproductive rights”. The NY Slimes know perfectly well what they’re doing. They figure enough clueless folks will see that and think “I have a right to be reproductive! Why is Romney trying to take that away from me!”
