Its not so much that its not in the Bible, which it is not, but that it conveys a message that is in polar opposition to what the Bible tells us.
Adam and Eve 'helped' themselves to the forbidden fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. They disregarded the Lord God's Command, and helped themselves... The result: death, disease, pride, lusts, and all the fruits of Sin.
The cure? Complete reliance on God and His Grace, and the Work of His Son - the Lord Jesus, to save us --- and not on ourselves ('By grace are ye saved through faith, and not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast...'). If Mr. Carney wanted to quote from the Bible to convey a message of 'self-help', perhaps he should have used:
2 Thess 3:10
For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
Proverbs 13:4
The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
Proverbs 6
6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
Proverbs 26:16
The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.
In Gen 3:4-5, Satan states the lie that all of liberalism is based on - "you will be as gods, knowing good and evil".
This also implies that you can DECIDE what is good and what is evil. THIS is "liberalism".
