A new report claims that Republican presidential contender Herman Cain voted for Democrat Bill Clinton for president in his first run, as well as for two Nebraska Democratic candidates in the past.
In a story on the Nebraska Watchdog website, Joe Jordan writes that Mr. Cain supported Mr.Clinton during his 1992 presidential bid, 17 months before he squared off with Mr. Clinton over his push to overhaul the national health care system.

Even if it’s true, remember that President Reagan voted for FDR and Truman. People can change their minds over time.
. Ten days after he confronted the President, Cain told this reporter (at the time Cain was living in Omaha and I was reporting for KMTV the CBS affiliate in Omaha) that, while he was embarrassed to admit it, on Election Day, 1992 Cain had voted for the Clinton-Gore ticket.*******************
Maybe so but as Nebraska Watchdog recently reported even after joining the GOP Cain contributed to two Nebraska Democrats.
1996: Nebraska Governor Ben Nelsons first U.S. Senate campaign, $500. (Nelson was running against Republican Chuck Hagel, who defeated Nelson).
1998: Congressional hopeful Michael Scott, $500. (Scott lost to Republican Lee Terry, following admissions by Scott that he had used illegal drugs including marijuana and cocaine).

According to the Center for Responsive Politics , Cain made the following Democratic contributions:
- 1993: Nebraska Senator Bob Kerrey, $250.
- 1993: New York Congressman Jose Serrano, $250.
- 1994: Nebraska Congressman Peter Hoagland, $500.
- 1996: Nebraska Governor Ben Nelsons first U.S. Senate campaign, $500. (Nelson was running against Republican Chuck Hagel, who defeated Nelson).
- 1998: Congressional hopeful Michael Scott, $500. (Scott lost to Republican Lee Terry, following admissions by Scott that he had used illegal drugs including marijuana and cocaine).
Yes, the same Herman Cain that took Clinton to the woodshed over Hillary Care in 1994 at a Presidential Town Hall.
In 1992 Clinton was more conservative than GHW Bush
Years ago I went for Stevenson against Ike when Ike injected USA troops in Lebanon. When Stevenson publicly supported Ike’s decision I wrote Stevenson a letter telling him of my disappointment and reasons. In a very cordial response Stevenson said it was everybody’s duty to support POTUSA at such a time. From that I learned politics is more important than conscience. When Goldwater and Reagan came on the scene it was easy to me to change but to this day it is my thoughts that for some things some political parties will always act the same
I agree. I see no compassion in Cain.
Unsubstantiated.
Yes, I remember how concerned...people were with attacking Perry who was in the lead over Romney while someone else was at 4%...
No, you don’t get to play that card. You can’t engage in destroying Perry then expect to have your candidate treated differently. Particularly when people have played the Gore card from ‘88 against him and alledgely you have a Clinton supporter here from ‘92.
I didn’t think that mattered with Perry and I don’t think it matters with Cain but the people who used that against Perry ought to own themselves as disingenuous political hacks if they support Cain now.
Anyway I’m very amused lately watching the contortions supporters of cain are going through to justify their support of a man who isn’t as awesomely pure a conservative warrior as they fantascized.
That's the Cain donation that really sucks. Serrano is Marxist scum of the worst order.
I agree. I see no compassion in Cain.
I miss Walter Williams.
Is that the same thing as being an algore field man????? Jorge senior deserved what he got, “read my lips no new taxes”.
Yes, Cain has abundant ego. How soon some on FR forget how important “character” was to them during the Clinton years.
Too many don't read the article.
Wouldn't matter anyway. Too many are gullible, or believe what they want to believe.
The report apparently is that Cain once checked “yes” on a note that was passed to him in the 4th Grade. The note was reportedly passed to Cain by a female in the classroom. Another female saw the note being passed from Cain back to the first female. The second female was offended that she had not received a note from Cain, and she reported feeling offended to the 4th Grade Teacher. We can't release details of the discussion, but the offended girl was later rewarded with early recess and extra dessert at lunch.
The Teacher (whose name will remain anonymous to protect the parties involved) reports to Politico that the note read, “Do you like me, check yes or no.”
Let it be known that this was an egregious act on Mr. Cain's part, the gesture of passing the note back up the row of students to the female was extremely offensive to the other female, and this kind of behavior should not be tolerated in America, much less from someone who is running for President!
Role in the defeat of the Clinton health care plan
Cain publicly opposed the Clinton health care plan of 1993. As president-elect of the National Restaurant Association, he challenged Bill Clinton on the costs of the employer mandate contained within the bill and criticized its effect on small businesses. Bob Cohn of Newsweek described Cain as one of the primary opponents of the plan:
The Clintons would later blame “Harry and Louise”, the fictional couple in the ads aired by the insurance industry, for undermining health reform. But the real saboteurs are named Herman and John. Herman Cain is the president of Godfather’s Pizza and president-elect of the National Restaurant Association. An articulate entrepreneur, Cain transformed the debate when he challenged Clinton at a town meeting in Kansas City, Missouri. Cain asked the president what he was supposed to say to the workers he would have to lay off because of the cost of the “employer mandate”. Clinton responded that there would be plenty of subsidies for small businessmen, but Cain persisted. “Quite honestly, your calculation is inaccurate,” he told the president. “In the competitive marketplace it simply doesn’t work that way.”[52]
Joshua Green of The Atlantic has called Cain’s exchange with Clinton his “auspicious debut on the national political stage”.[53]
Conservative politician and former Housing Secretary Jack Kemp was so impressed with Cain’s performance that he chartered a plane to Nebraska to meet Cain after the debate. Cain credits Kemp with his becoming interested in politics.[54]
