Egypt: 'We Kept Israel Out of Gaza''

Egyptian officials claim they have prevented Israel from launching a major military incursion into Gaza as rocket and mortar fire from the Hamas-run enclave sharply rose over the weekend.

"Egypt succeeded in halting the ongoing tit-for-tat attacks across the border," Yasser Othman, Cairo's ambassador to the Palestinian Authority, told the PA's semi-official Maan News on Monday.

Othman said Egyptian efforts would continue until a complete truce is reached in Gaza and Israeli violations stop, adding that Egypt’s ambassador to Israel has been contacted by Israeli officials on a daily basis in order to reach a complete ceasefire.

Othman applauded the 'Palestinian' terror factions for "not being swayed by Israel's provocative acts."

Well, they're getting steadily alienated by the Oslo accord, so what do you expect?

Those Israelis with their provocative acts, breathing in and out all the time.

Israel is doing the right thing here. They should stop pretending Gaza is "independent". They should talk directly to Egypt and ignore the Hamas government.

Yasser Othman, Cairo's ambassador to the Palestinian Authority may wind up being the de facto governor of Gaza. Israel is evidently starting to treat him that way. Its better than pretending Hamas is a real government.

The main provocation being existing.

Next step is to start holding Egypt responsible for Ghazans’ actions, and demanding that they stop them, or Israel will be at war with Egypt. If that doesn’t work, then invade Ghaza immediately and finish it fast. If Egypt wants to mix it up after that, Ghaza is out of the way and we’re ready.

"Israel should bomb the Hamas headquarters into the ground, and then buzz the Aswan dam."

War is coming. How about arm the Copts and start cyber war activities against Egyptian defense systems? Don't allow the present situation of all the Muslim countries slowly being brought together in a grand coalition to attack Israel.

Wise Egyptians should move to higher apartments. The Aswan may someday disappear.

It will be next to impossible to get Egypt to take responsibility for or to annex Gaza. Maybe the only way is to turn over the gas field off the coast there, but Israel already pledged it to the PA.

Israel could try to bomb the border separating Gaza from Sinai. But that would be considered a hostile act by Egypt, and could result in more and bigger missiles being smuggled into Gaza, closer to range of Ashkelon and Be’re Sheva or even further.

Not saying there is no solution, but they need to go back to the policy of attacking Hamas. Unfortunately I think they are, at the moment, playing nice with Hamas as part of their effort to punish the PLO/PA for going to the UN and discarding the Olso agreements. I am certain that is one of the reasons they agreed to the Shalit deal - to raise Hamas and humiliate PLO.

I don’t know what Bibi’s real agenda is, but if the PA falls, and Hamas takes over, Oslo is not only dead, but it will be open season on Hamas, who will be making it extremely easy to justify destroying, i.e., by making it open season on Jooos! and one-time Fatah-niks.

I mean to hold Egypt responsible for Ghaza as if it were its own territory, and then invade Ghaza, finish it off quickly and cleanly. If Egypt wants to throw down after that, let them. By then, Lebanon will be bombarding the North, and Egypt will make a better opponent to fight while simultaneously punishing Hizbollah, because Egypt would have to confine its war-making to the battle field, since the smuggling in and out of Ghaza can better be stopped if we are in control on the ground, thereby lessening and perhaps even eliminating the prospect of urban guerilla warfare. Syria’s fighting a civil war, and Jordan is no longer an active enemy. That leaves Egypt, Turkey and Lebanon, once Ghaza is done. Turkey is the wild card. Iran is so big and dangerous, it doesn’t even belong in the deck. That’s why it’s best to deal with Hamas and Ghaza immediately and thoroughly.
