Herman Cain now says he knew of cash settlement with one woman who accused him of sexual harassment
Washington Post ^ | October 31, 2011 | Nia-Malika Henderson

Posted on 10/31/2011 2:35:20 PM PDT by LonelyCon

Herman Cain, who spent Monday denying that he sexually harassed two women while he headed the National Restaurant Association, late in the day offered details of an incident with a female colleague that led to allegations of inappropropriate behavior. Also, for the first time, the 2012 presidential candidate acknowledged that he knew about a settlement that was offered to one of the women.

Byron York of the Washington Examiner had details of what Cain said in the interview wtih Greta Van Susteren, which will air tonight on Fox.

“My general counsel said this started out where she and her lawyer were demanding a huge financial settlement…I don’t remember a number…But then he said because there was no basis for this, we ended up settling for what would have been a termination settlement,” Cain said in the interview, as reported by the Washington Examiner. “Maybe three months’ salary. I don’t remember. It might have been two months. I do remember my general counsel saying we didn’t pay all of the money they demanded.”

Cain’s statement represent a reversal from what the Republican said only hours ago, when he denied that he knew about any settlement that was reached after the claims of sexual harassment were made.

“Oh! what a tangled web we weave. When first we practice to deceive!”

Damn, Cain should have got out front of this story, said yes suit was filed, money was paid. Then tell the LSM to contact Bill O’Reilly for comment as he has considerable experience in such matters.

Or ask the Slickster how cigar and blue dress sales are going.

Cain was leading in Texas long before this story broke so that’s not news.

But nice try.

Who else besides Romney and perhaps Perry has motivation to take Cain down just a couple month before Primary Season?

Earlier today he said he personally didn’t pay a settlement and that he didn’t know if the National Restaurant Association paid a settlement. Now he knows. No big deal.
The big deal is the Cain campaign -- which presumably includes Cain and is in big, big trouble if it doesn't -- knew more than a week ago that this story was coming out and they did DIDDLY SQUAT about preparing for it.

That's bad. That's really, really bad.

The "allegation" itself is grade F horse sh*t, but Cain's response, and back-response, and counter-response stinks to high heaven.

Fire your staff, Herman. They ain't doin' ya no good. That's for sure.

I do believe this was Romney. Romney is just this kind of evil and smarmy and Romney is worried about Iowa and even NH and this is a way to maybe save his stinking liberal behind.

But sure Cain is making it easy for Romney, isn’t he?

“No big deal.”

Uh huh, and tell that to the LSM.

Face it, Cain is going to get Palinized nine ways to Sunday over this. And this is just the first of many to come, he is going to be made to look like the LSM wants.

And for all you Cain supporters who loved to say Palin was too tarnished by the LSM and she should not run. Will now be interesting to see what you have to say about Cain as the weeks go by.

My guess is that he was informed by his legal counsel after the first interview that there was a settlement and the details of it.

He immediately went out and shared the details of that.

I do not see any wrong doing or inappropriate behavior. However, he should have, by this time, been fullt briefed on all of the details and had his memory jogged before that 1st interview and not had to correct himself.

His campaign may just be too understaffed. He needs to make sure he has people to help him with the research and data as it happens. I believe he is being honest...I also believe he needs a stronger team around him and hope he is putting one together.

Amen. The slanders against Herman Cain prove that he is feared by the Leftist enemy. This is what they tried to do the Clarence Thomas. Damn them to hell. Time to rally around our man. Go Herman!

I was a Perry supporter. The Perry supporters are no longer talking to me because of my criticisms of Perry. I am persona nongrata on Perry threads these days, though I admit to still having a soft spot for Perry, just because of his 10-years and the size and success of the state of Texas.

I want to be a Cain supporter and if you click on my name you’ll see a lot of pro-Cain posts (and some posts criticizing some aspects of 999) in recent weeks.

But I call it the way I see it. I admit to being in a quandary over the whole lineup, however.

I mean, look at my tagline. A couple of months ago I would no more have considered Gingrich than I would the man in the moon.

But I am not anti-Cain. Not by a long shot. I think Cain is a good man and will make an excellent president. The problem is, what kind of CANDIDATE is he? So far, that’s got me greatly worried.

If this flap is proved to be nothing but a flap and it dies down will Sarah come down in Herman’s side? My guess is YES!

Look, if suit was filed against Cain and monies paid. It matters not a whit if he remembered the particulars.

One thing for sure, running for the prez is big time, he damn well knew it happened, he did not have his ducks in a row, and has handled the entire affair miserably.

f_r,

Off Topic: Cain just told a radio talk show host in Des Moines that he would pick Newt Gingrich for a running mate.

That would make a lot of sense. Gingrich would provide the political experience, even in some ways foreign policy experience.

But Newt has to refute global warming. He really has to do that.
