Herman Cain now says he knew of cash settlement with one woman who accused him of sexual harassment
Washington Post ^ | October 31, 2011 | Nia-Malika Henderson

Herman Cain, who spent Monday denying that he sexually harassed two women while he headed the National Restaurant Association, late in the day offered details of an incident with a female colleague that led to allegations of inappropropriate behavior. Also, for the first time, the 2012 presidential candidate acknowledged that he knew about a settlement that was offered to one of the women.

Byron York of the Washington Examiner had details of what Cain said in the interview wtih Greta Van Susteren, which will air tonight on Fox.

“My general counsel said this started out where she and her lawyer were demanding a huge financial settlement…I don’t remember a number…But then he said because there was no basis for this, we ended up settling for what would have been a termination settlement,” Cain said in the interview, as reported by the Washington Examiner. “Maybe three months’ salary. I don’t remember. It might have been two months. I do remember my general counsel saying we didn’t pay all of the money they demanded.”

Cain’s statement represent a reversal from what the Republican said only hours ago, when he denied that he knew about any settlement that was reached after the claims of sexual harassment were made.

I do believe this was Romney.

Me too. If this gets pinned on Romney - he'll spend hours talking about it in such detail that no sane person will have the slightest idea what he said. Or didn't say.

Like he always does...

That is the problem with having such a great field of candidates. Who to choose?

Ron Paul is going to wreck everything.

Ron Paul wins both tallies at GOP straw poll in Iowa

There was no “settlement”.....the accuser was terminated and given severance pay.

The MSM dare not let the facts get in the way of a good story to bash a conservative.

He didn’t do anything contradictory.

Earlier today he said if his legal team settled it, he didn’t know about it. It is obvious that he was made aware of it at some point today before this interview.

I appreciate that. I am a Palin supporter, but she's not running.

I hoped to be a Perry supporter, but found that I could not agree with some of his positions.

I am now a Cain supporter, and believe that he is our best remaining candidate. Has he made mistakes? Yes. However, I believe that he is a good man, and that he is mature, intelligent and strong. That's what I want in a president.

Earlier he said his attys handled it and he didn’t know the details.

Obviously he got the details between then and now.

What is so hard to understand about this?

Sounds like par for the course — tame actually — for association work.

I’d like to know how many other employers the woman in question pulled this one. My guess is that she’s a frequent target of “sexual harassment.” In my experience, there’s a type that this happens to.

Several years ago we had the unpleasant experience of being sued by a sue-happy elderly couple who was involved in a multi-car accident that also included my husband. Our insurance company and their attorneys settled the case. We may have been notified of the final settlement, but I honestly don’t remember. If this incident is similar, then it wouldn’t be surprising or out of the ordinary for Cain to just have been told that the issue had been taken care of. It’s not like he was trying to run a big organization or anything like that. /s

Who had the motivation to throw out that stupid story about the rock in TX? As far as I know, no one bothered to find out.

I have no idea who did it but I can think of many who may benefit from this. We’ll just have to see how this plays out.

You can say to a woman, "you really look great in that dress" and to some dumb broad, instead of saying 'thanks' she thinks she is being harassed..

Heck, a man opens a door for a wimmyn and she'll kick him the groin and then file suit. Feminism!!! Evil to the core.

At the risk of being accused of being in the tank for Cain. Consider this. He probably knew there was a settlement and probably knew more than he was telling this morning, but may not have known what the confidentiality agreement terms were.

Since the agreement was 15 years old, it may may have taken most of the day for the Association’s counsel to locate, research, and opine on what Cain could and could not say.

As for the pundits talking about the “10-day” time Politico had given the campaign, no one knows what Politico asked the campaign or how it was framed.

I am disappointed in how this is being played out in the media and I certainly hope this isn’t the work of “our side.” But, in all that I’ve seen, I still believe the “establishment” both Democrat and Republican are deathly afraid of this man because he represents a departure from their “chosen one.”

I disagree. I believe that when a person or entity is insured against that kind of thing, that once a claim is brought, the insurance company may be exclusively involved. No details of the money involved or resolution of the case may be allowed.

Imho, Cain would have been busy with much more than a claim such as that, in which he believed himself to be innocent.
