Attention Media: Occupy Wall Street Protesters Are World's Richest One Percent

While the media champion the Occupy Wall Street movement as if it's the American version of the Arab Spring, they're predictably missing a crucial distinction.

As the Motley Fool reported Friday, those sleeping in tents and skipping showers in cities around the country are actually part of the world's richest one percent:

In America, the top 1% earn more than $380,000 per year. We are, however, among the richest nations on Earth. How much do you need to earn to be among the top 1% of the world?

$34,000.

The biggest pushers of collectivism are the 1%.

As Motley Fool observed:

According to the U.N., “Nearly half the world’s population, 2.8 billion people, earn less than $2 a day.” According to the World Bank, 95% of those living in the developing world earn less than $10 a day. [...]

In short, most of those protesting in the Occupy Wall Street movement would be considered wealthy — perhaps extraordinarily wealthy — by much of the world. Many of those protesting the 1% are, ironically, the 1%.

squatting in Zuccotti Park with fancy tents, iPones, iPads, and wifi gadgets, getting lattes at Starbucks and shouting grievances to high-rise skyscrapers

last week, a reporter interviewed an “occupier” who’s been homeless since 1973 — but wasn’t that more than a few economic downturns ago?

I think that if you really want to get at Wall Street, just stop buying all those iPhones, iPads, Kindles, flat screen TVs, designer clothes, shoes, purses, furnishings, and, of course, coffee. For god’s sake, what’s wrong with a plain old cup of Joe in one of those blue cups that says “We’re happy to serve you.” Why does it have to be a $4 double grande, mocha chocolate latte from Starbucks?

Stop freaking buying. It isn’t necessary to have the latest, greatest anything. And if you don’t have the cash, you certainly shouldn’t use the plastic.

You forgot all the illegal drugs and unsolicited sex you want.

You realize if people quit *buying* we are really screwed?

The occupy Atlanta participants have all moved into a homeless shelter.
I kid you not.

That sort of things get me scratching my head. The big headache for the OWS nuts in NYC is the “professional homeless” moving in on their stuff. So in Atlanta it’s the other way around. Huh.

The homeless advocates more or less took over the occupy Atlanta movement.
The whole thing turned into some kind of weird vestigial civil rights rally.

So by this reasoning, all of America’s poor would be rich ... if they only moved to someplace else.

I fail to see how that helps the problems of the unemployed here in the US. Or are you planning to start a campaign to get the poor people in America to move to foreign countries so we don’t have them here cluttering up the nation?

Oh, please. I have no power to have anyone move anywhere. But they are doing themselves no favors by bitching and moaning in a public park in downtown New York with their IPhones, IPads, IPods, designer jeans, etc.

Hell, one-third of them QUIT THEIR JOBS to become ‘homeless’. That is just brilliant!

It's working the other way, we are importing the poor and criminal class from Mexico.
