Cain: “I was falsely accused” of sexual harassment at trade group (Watch FOX News VIDEO)
Hotair ^ | 10/31/2011 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 10/31/2011 9:48:36 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Herman Cain acted swiftly to put an end to speculation over the story about sexual-harassment claims during his tenure at the National Restaurant Association. After a few hours of confused response, Cain admitted that he had been accused, but falsely, of inappropriate conduct. He claimed that an investigation of those accusations showed at the time that they were “baseless,” and he seemed surprised by the news that the trade group settled the claims. “I hope it wasn’t for much,” Cain told Fox News, “because nothing happened”:

“I have never sexually harassed anyone, but yes, I was falsely accused while I was at the National Restaurant Association,” he said.

He added that he does not know that a settlement was paid out against the two complainants, and said “If more allegations come, I assure you that people will simply make them up.”

“The only other allegations will be trumped up allegations,” he said.

This is a much better response than the one offered last night in response to the Politico story. It acknowledges that Cain had to deal with accusations, and puts him on the record with a strong denial specific to them. Unless Politico reveals more about the nature of the complaints and the women involved come forward, this will likely be enough to keep Cain in the game, as it’s doubtful that voters will give much credence to the vague nature of the allegations — unless they get a lot less vague, and unless more people come forward with complaints, assuming they can credibly do so.

Fox also asked about a story in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel about possible campaign finance irregularities. I’ll have more on that later, but that hits Cain’s staff rather than Cain himself.

1) WHO are these women? Identify yourselves.

It wasn't them, it was an insider who had access to the information who leaked it to the Media.........Don't forget, there are monetary rewards being offered for any slanderous information that can be dug up against any Republicans.

Just to refresh your memory, let me remind you of the DUI that was issued to President Bush back around 1972 that was "dug up" by someone and presented to the MSM and ultimately used to try to discredit him and derail his run for president. Then of course the infamous "AWOL" from the National Guard fake letter that finally got Dan Rather kicked off the air waves........

Cain is a viable candidate for the Republican Party and it does this site no good to debate the bogus allegations that were leveled against him.

People here should be focusing on who provided the crap being thrown on the wall hoping it will stick rather than trying to interpret what the actual events were based on the limited information that has been coming out....

This is not a lynching, this is a real thing that needs to be squashed now.

A real thing that needs to be squashed now? SQUASHED as in suppressed, or make believe that it never happened? Or SQUASHED in revealing it for what it truly is, a LYNCHING!

I'm confused.......

he’d have to sign the settlement to be bound by it, and if he signed it, he couldn’t say he had no idea it existed.

So what's your point? You saying Cain is lying????

From everything that I have seen of Cain, he is a strong, conservative, and admirable man.

Have faith, folks here will eventually be able to disqualify every Republican running for office in 2012 so Cain won't be alone.........In fact, I suspect that if Jesus were to return and run for office, he would be considered by many as being a liberal for his Socialistic act in feeding the masses with free bread and fish...........

Confused? Ok. This is a real incident that happened with Herman Cain who is running for President of the United States. If this real incident that involved Cain is not brought to light now squashed then it will certainly be brought up before the general election.

Now if Rick Perry was in a similar situation I wouldn't call it a lynching I would call it what I am calling it now and I would be pissed Rick Perry didn't let this out sooner.

This is like Bush's DWI. If Bush had made this known early on we would have never had the 2000 election happen like it did.

This is like Bush's DWI. If Bush had made this known early on we would have never had the 2000 election happen like it did.

And furthermore, since when is it necessary that a political candidate need to reveal that they had a traffic violation for speeding, running a red light, making an illegal left turn or a DUI 30 years ago when they were just out of their teens???????

And lets not forgive a possible tresspassing charge against a candidate who may have been caught stealing apples or tomatoes from a neighbor's garden when they were kids.

You sir affirm my prior statement about Republicans too eager to eat their own.........and if left to your devices, every candidate would be successfully eliminated from the running....by our own party.

Like I said, if Democrats followed our lead............

Again, what the heck are you saying? Bush wouldn't have been elected? Bush would have been elected?

You're not making any sense here Normy..............

Well, I believe that Cain himself admitted the women were paid off. I heard the quote. and he added, I hope they weren’t paid much as the claims were unfounded.

Severence pay? hahahah

Yes. Dubya was advised to get ahead of the DWI story but refused because he didn’t want to hurt his daughters.

It was a very foolish decision and gave a push to algore at the last minute. He could have deflected this quite nicely.

Cain needs to do this also and if there’s anything else he needs to get ahead of it as well.

From the FOX Interview today:

JENNA: Have you ever had to settle a claim, given money or paid someone because of a claim of sexual harassment or sexual misconduct?

CAIN: At the Restaurant Association, now outside the Restaurant Association, absolutely not. If the Restaurant Association did a settlement, I am, I was not even aware of it, and I hope that it wasn't for much, because nothing happened. So if there was a settlement, it was handled by some of the other officers that worked for me at the Association. So the answer is, "absolutely not".

Here is an honest question for you altura. How do you think carrying the water for liberal publications is helping you or Perry's credibility? I am not talking about legitimate questions about Cain. I for one look forward to the details of this story. I REALLY hope these women go public. You have to realize the story is already falling apart. Even the author of the story is fumbling all over himself on the lack of details: http://m.newsbusters.org/blogs/mark-finkelstein/2011/10/31/politicos-martin-dodges-question-cain-details SO again, do you really think this helps your candidate? We all know this is not about you wanting to get to the truth.
