A prominent physicist and skeptic of global warming spent two years trying to find out if mainstream climate scientists were wrong. In the end, he determined they were right: Temperatures really are rising rapidly.
The study of the world's surface temperatures by Richard Muller was partially bankrolled by a foundation connected to global warming deniers. He pursued long-held skeptic theories in analyzing the data. He was spurred to action because of "Climategate," a British scandal involving hacked emails of scientists.
Yet he found that the land is 1.6 degrees warmer than in the 1950s. Those numbers from Muller, who works at the University of California, Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, match those by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and NASA.
He said he went even further back, studying readings from Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson. His ultimate finding of a warming world, to be presented at a conference Monday, is no different from what mainstream climate scientists have been saying for decades.

He pulls out the Koch brothers, and adds in all the usual lies and distortions that global alarmists rely on.
A funny thing happened on the way to tomorrow's conference at which Muller was supposed to be hailed as the man who ended the climate debate. Today's Daily Mail exploded Muller's lies and uses no less than one of his CO-AUTHORS to destroy his credibility.
WUWT and Climate Depot are all over the story as well, and by the time tomorrows conference starts, the questions will be about Muller 'hiding the decline' and releasing papers BEFORE peer review. His credibility has been shot in less than two weeks after he violated scientific norms and release with great publicity his papers.

Check out the temperature graph from that very study you refer to.
Then, take some very, very very elementary statistics (far far about your meager journalist abilities, we know) and see if there’s an upward trend in the last ten years or so.
Then get back to us.
That is not the issue.
The issue is are humans driving it?
The other issue is if we turn our freedom over to world government will we be saved?

I had to stop reading the article. Propaganda of this scale is mind bending.
Their time would be better spent trying to find out why obummer’s social security number is bogus.
And, a good reconstruction of temperatures back to the 1850’s will show global (or world-wide land) temperatures increased even more since then. So? We’ve been coming out of the Little Ice Age, and going back to “normal” all that time.
Whether global warming was (or even is) real isn’t that fraught a question, that climate change is real is not really an interesting proposition (the earth’s climate is a huge non-linear dynamical system, for it not to change would literally take a miracle in the strong Aristotelian sense of a complete violation of the laws of nature). The only interesting or important question is whether human activity is causing either, and the BEST study shows nothing of the sort.
It’s hardly surprising that AP hacks use Newspeak in which the phrases “global warming”, “climate change” and “anthropogenic global warming” all have identical meanings (meaning that each can be used to mean what it or the other two mean as suits the interests of the left, or the grant-hungry climatologist, at any given moment).

It was well known, for years, that paved land (roads,highways,driveways, patios, etc.) all retains heat and caused the temperature to be slightly raised.
Yes.
But it's not what they are doing to the sky that causes it.
It's what we are doing to the ground. It's very simple, and being completely ignored.
The more we pave over the surface of the Earth, the more heat it retains, and the less food it produces. That is all there is to it, yet the ruling elite don't want to say so, because their plan is just to eliminate the eaters.
And now that it's practically balmy at 49 instead of a chilly 47.4, I think I will wear shorts today. (And fire up the grill.)

As you said, Judith Curry, one of his co-authors, is taking issue with the content of his press release. This is going to be big, as big as both Climategate and the Hockey Stick fraud, because it’s so easy to understand.
In a nutshell, Prof Muller used 10-year averaging to disguise the fact that the land temperature record has been essentially flat for the past 10 years or longer. But the individual data points are available, and people are tearing his analysis (if you could call it an analysis, instead of an obvious propaganda attempt) apart online. And Curry agrees with the critiques.
Furthermore, the AGW meme is that land temperatures should lead ocean temperatures, and this study involves land temperatures only.
The actual point of the BEST study was to aggregate and analyze all of the available land temperature records in an attempt to get one solid data set. Fortunately, the AGW crowd, seeing what they thought was the result they wanted, jumped on board immediately and claimed that the BEST records are, well, the best available now.
And now, ironically, the skeptics will almost certainly agree, since closer analysis supports the skeptic’s side of the argument.
So, everyone agrees that CO2 has increased in the atmosphere over the past several decades, including the last, and it’s the position of the AGW crowd that this should lead to a continuous increase in temperatures, with land temperatures increasing fastest. CO2 increased, but land temperatures have remained flat for at least a decade now, according to data that they were acclaiming a week ago as the best available.
Perfect. This should be the final nail in the AGW coffin, especially since it’s easy to understand the obvious ruse, and so many reporters were taken in by it that some are almost certain to bite back at the hand that fed them the ruse.

Plants, microbes, insects, fish, animals, and humans do influence the climate: mainly to greatly stabilize it. If the climate changes so does life on Earth to counteract the change. Without life the climate would be much more unstable and unsuitable for supporting life. It is amazing the twists and turns that this scam has taken. The enviroloons and the government funded “scientists” have been tools in the hands of the share the wealth internationalists. I don't think this has been a well planned conspiracy just a lot of self serving opportunists taking advantage of the natural variation in our climate to grab power. It evolved into an all out assault on capitalism and the fuel that drives the western economies.
