A day after refusing to oppose repeal of Kasichs measure, Romney waffled about his straddle, saying he opposed repeal 110 percent. He did not, however, endorse the anti-mandate measure, remaining semi-faithful to the trans-Appalachian codicil pertaining to principles, thereby seeming to lack the courage of his absence of convictions.
Romney, supposedly the Republican most electable next November, is a recidivist reviser of his principles who is not only becoming less electable; he might damage GOP chances of capturing the Senate. Republican successes down the ticket will depend on the energies of the Tea Party and other conservatives, who will be deflated by a nominee whose blurry profile in caution communicates only calculated trimming.

Maybe you should go back and read George Will’s,
allegedly an “Opinion Writer”, pretzel opinion
of the RINO Romney.
There is no pretzelization of opinion here at FR
where Romney is correctly perceived as
the turd in the GOP punch bowl who gave America
Obama in 2008, and attacked Tea Party candidates
in 2010, with his present plans to help Obama in 2012.
Obviously you don't when it is used as a pejorative in an opinion piece.
Get a grip and drink a bit of caffeine free.
I could usually care less about much of what Will does but when he comes out and impugns the veracity of Mitt-for-brains stances, whatever they may be for the hour and place, you have to be taken aback for just a moment and realize this is no small event.
If I were to disagree with you most of the time, I would be adult enough to give you credit when you are right.
Either that, or you didn't want to.
You may not have grasped it, but Will came down on Romney like a hammer on a spike.
I like this part:
"A straddle is not a political philosophy; it is what you do when you do not have one. It is what Romney did when he said that using Troubled Assets Relief Program funds for the General Motors and Chrysler bailouts was the wrong source for that funding. Oh, so the source was the bailouts defect."
Romney is such a complete fraud and phony.
If you have to use WaPo story = zero credibility. Whats next is HuffPo endorses Ryan/Cain and says only nice things about Palin they get to play? WaPo owned by Buffet. I know it is used a lot but if they dissemble on one issue why not another. I’m not for Romney but if these attacks by left-wing entities keep carrying the weight they seem to here maybe I’ll take another look.
Good article.
I get really exasperated with people who read an article - or more accurately, read the author’s name - and spend the entire thread spewing juvenile insults to show you how much they hate the author, regardless of what he has actually said.
But aside from that, this article brings up something important, which is that a Romney candidacy would probably have a depressing effect on efforts to elect conservatives to other offices, too. I don’t think he has a remote chance of winning the general election, even if he is the candidate, but he’s certainly going to do a lot to destroy the conservative momentum in the GOP.
“...thereby seeming to lack the courage of his absence of convictions.”
That’s a keeper. It becomes my new tagline.
