Think of all the global warming to be caused by burning gas, diesel and natural gas/propane for all the generators.

372K CL&P customers according to their site. We’ve lost it a few times, but it came back on.
And that doesn’t include UI customers or muni power companies in the state.

We already have a large branch across the driveway and a few trees leaning heavily with snow. This could be worse than Irene.

Ha! CL&P said three hours. I have my 6KW generator running again. Got heat and lights.
I hope the poor OWS'ers don't get cold.

Although these outages are attributed to a storm, power outages are going to start becoming routine in a lot of areas. This is because of the lack of construction of adequate facilities for power generation. Whenever a new plant is proposed, the environmentalists stop or delay them. So many areas have very little margin in their capacity.
For a number of years now I've believed that a certain amount of outages would be a very good thing. Most people are clueless about how electrical energy is generated and distributed. They have been led to believe by idiots in the environmental and news media that green energy (solar and wind) can play a major role in generating the quantities of electrical energy required for our standard of living and our economy. It can't and can't even come close. Power outages and only power outages are required for the average American troglodyte to understand how important it is to have an intelligent policy with regards to electric power generation. Nothing else will work at this point. People must suffer and suffer significantly. But if people suffer enough then just maybe political pressure can be brought upon those who have brought this serious situation upon us.

There could well be millions of people without power in the northeast by tomorrow morning. The problem is that this isn't your typical snowstorm. The snow is very wet and heavy and many of the trees still have leaves so the snow tends to stick to them and bring the branches down more easily.
It's been snowing heavily here on the MA/NH border since 5pm and already I see a lot of tree branches close to the ground. I've got my generator ready to go as I am expecting to lose power tonight and it might be days before I get it back.

We have about 6 inches on the ground already - they say another 10 or so tonight - got a couple of huge oak limbs down in back.
At least I don't have to shovel my roof again (yet).

All the leaves are still on the trees. The last time we had snow this early was before the US Civil War.
BTW it is the trees that can’t seem to handle ‘a little snow’, not the residents.

We have big oak leaning quite sharply and threatening our barn. We don’t have much snow actually, maybe 2 inches, but it is wet and slushy.
Still have power and a full rack of wood.

...my cable flickered a few times, if the wind picks up we’re in trouble, the trees are heavy with snow. Sorta weird seeing leaves mixed in with snow.

Excellent understanding of our coddled cretins. They have never cleared a forest, fixed a drain, spliced a power line or welded a gas main - and never will. Just sitting at the ‘puter in comfy jammies whining about global warming, pollution and wildlife.
OWSers are about to find OWT what it took for pioneers to create a civilization with their bare hands, weather be damned.

Here in central PA we have about 7 inches and the trees are heavy with wet snow. Lots of power outages. The roads are mostly wet or just slushy but many are closed due to downed trees and or power lines. Im hoping my power stays on. Its been going off and on all day. Tonight after the snow stops its supposed to get windy. Not good.

They’ve done it since the 70s here in CT.

Good luck. We’ve lost power about 5 times in the last hour, but it comes back on.
The wind is going to be a killer.
