Jennifer Haberkorn of Politico has a new article up that addresses one of the biggest liabilities of Mitt Romneys health care law in Massachusetts: the fact that health-insurance premiums in Massachusetts have skyrocketed since the law was put into place. Even though Romney promised at the time that the law would reduce the cost of health insurance (sound familiar?), today, as Haberkorn reports, Romneycares defenders claim that the law was never meant to reduce health costs. Indeed, Timothy Murphy, Secretary of Health and Human Services under Romney, told her that reducing costs was not the proper role of government.
Huh? Heres the full excerpt (emphasis added):
Timothy Murphy, who was Massachusetts Health and Human Services secretary while Romney was governor, said he doubted the governor would have supported any cost regulations for philosophical reasons.
People say we didnt do cost controls, said Murphy, who is now president and CEO of Beacon Health Strategies, a managed behavioral health care company. I would never do that in a million years We didnt think it was the proper role of government.
So: massively increasing state health spending is ok, but making sure that this spending doesnt drive the state bankrupt, or harm taxpayers, isnt the proper role of government. If this is an accurate representation of Murphys views, its unfathomably irresponsible.
And lets be clear: far from being a peripheral aspect of Romneys plan, reducing health costs for the middle class was the central political argument Romney deployed in its favor.

...explained Romney in an April 2006 op-ed for the Wall Street Journal. Every uninsured citizen in Massachusetts will soon have affordable health insurance and the costs of health care will be reduced, he promised in the op-eds second paragraph. (Emphasis added.)

Not funny, just disgusting. As I reported, little wonder people are leaving this site. It’s been turned over to morons like you.
Remember Mittster is a little god....whatever he says is his reality.....
So you are in favor of the government imposing price controls on doctors?
Ever hear of a little Government program called Medicaid?
Sure, but it'll be a short one with me. Those decisions should be made by willing buyers and sellers free of Government mandates. In other words, the free market.
Other than that pesky "willing buyers" part I might agree with you. Trouble is that Romney and his idiot advisors forced every MA resident at the point of a gun to buy his stupid product. That's why I won't support or vote for Romney.
He's a nasty little statist.
